We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Yes. I have a favorite quote. That quote is as follows: “The artist is within you, No one can display the color of your character but you. So PUSH!”- Monique Thompson

This quote has a deeper meaning for me. It means that no matter what you face; circumstances, challenges or obstacles (the “colors” of life), anyone can move forward and finish what they were created to do. This quote has such a deep meaning because of the life experiences I’ve had. I like quite a few things about this quote, but what I like the most, is that it is original and backed by facts.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
From as far back as I can remember, even as a child, I have always loved encouraging people. However, at the age of 13, I found myself in need of the encouragement that I was always extending to others. It was at that age when I had my first serious life altering medical procedure. This life experience curved the way I began to view life.

As I got older, I started having many tough experiences that led me to the pen and paper. It was through this that I learned I had the ability to write words that formed into tunes and became songs of encouragement. Before I knew it, I was singing across the world.

I never knew that I would one day become a gospel artist. As time progressed, I realized that God teaches you how to turn your negative experiences into positive ones. Although it was not easy to endure over 18 surgeries (to include a cancer scare and tumor removed off my brain), He allowed me to become the creative that I am today.

Over the span of my life, I can truly say that with the help of God’s strength, family, and a great support team, I SURVIVED it all. Through my story and journey, I am blessed to be able to help motivate others to PUSH and keep going no matter what “color of life” is thrown their way.

Through my life experiences, I have also learned to view life’s issues, circumstances, delays or challenges from a different lens in order to respond appropriately to the matter at hand. I have also learned that on this journey called life, all you can do is be the best you that you can be.

I desire for all individuals (no matter what their walk of life is) that may cross my path, hear my music, read my upcoming book, or see me as a public speaker, be it virtually or in person, to know that they were created to BE with a great purpose. My purpose for being alive is to help someone else BECOME better!
