Meet Monique Glover

We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Glover and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monique, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
My favorite quote is actually a lyric from the song “Risin’ to the Top” by Keni Burke: “Let’s keep rising to the top, give it all you got.” It’s a powerful reminder to stay self-empowered and committed, no matter the season or circumstance. To me, it means trusting yourself fully, staying focused on your vision, and consistently delivering excellence every time. It speaks to the drive to keep moving forward, even when things get tough. That energy of pushing through and staying consistent is something I carry with me in all areas of my creative journey and in how I navigate life overall.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is rooted in authenticity. I make a conscious effort to preserve truth in my work, whether that’s through storytelling, cultural enrichment, or the designs themselves. What sets me apart is a blend of lived experience, intention, and years of hands-on work in the fashion and creative industries.
I’m most proud of building a brand that’s not only recognizable but continues to grow and evolve. From being offered globally through the Shein X program to now preparing for its next chapter (one that involves thoughtful scaling and integrating tech to meet the demands of our digital age), I’m excited for what’s ahead.
The journey hasn’t always been easy. Like many creatives, I’ve battled imposter syndrome. One major lesson I’ve learned is the power of preparation. Research and continued education are game-changers—they not only sharpen your skills but help you stand firmly in your worth. I’ve also learned that creating solely for ourselves, without external validation, is where some of the most honest and impactful work originates.
At the core of my story is a commitment to culture, craftsmanship, and community. I want the world to know that my brand isn’t just about fashion, it’s about meaning, legacy, and showing up fully in your truth.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Although this is Shoutout Atlanta, I must represent my hometown, New York City. If my best friend were visiting for a week, the itinerary would reflect the city’s incredible diversity, creativity, and nonstop energy. Where we’d go would depend on their vibe and personality, but for someone who’s down to eat, explore, and soak in culture, here’s how I’d show them a great time:
We’d start with brunch at Cheryl’s Global Soul or Rustic Tavern, both of which offer a warm, local atmosphere with food that never disappoints. For art and inspiration, The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a classic, and First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum are a must for live music, dancing, and good people.
For lunch, we could hit Lindens in SoHo, the iconic Katz’s Deli, or Elora’s in Brooklyn for a cozy Mexican spot. An afternoon walk across the Brooklyn Bridge or a visit to Edge at Hudson Yards would be perfect for taking in the views and capturing photos.
In the summer, nothing beats an outdoor concert, a street festival, or classic fun at Coney Island. For dinner, I’d recommend Metropolis by Marcus Samuelsson, Sisters in Brooklyn, or the Renaissance Hotel in Harlem for a scene that mixes culture and comfort.
We’d wrap up our nights with rooftop vibes at Kimoto or keep it chill with a sunset ride on the Staten Island Ferry (a free and underrated NYC experience) with the best skyline views. NYC truly offers something for everyone, and I love curating experiences that reflect its soul.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Success is never a solo journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for the community that continues to pour into me and my work. I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to the organizations, platforms, and individuals who have empowered, amplified, and supported my brand over the years.
Thank you to Pratt Institute and the Black Alumni of Pratt Institute, who not only laid the foundation for my creative journey but have continued to support me by inviting me to events and offering opportunities to speak on panels. I’m also grateful to Made in NYC for consistently championing local creatives.
A huge thank you to Fashion Week Brooklyn, which has welcomed my brand for eight seasons, and to Art Hearts Fashion, which sponsored us during our most recent NYFW presentation.
Shoutout to Meta Elevate & Business Network, NYPACE, HerSuiteSpot, and the Tene Nicole Agency for providing guidance, community, and visibility. I also want to thank Swagher Magazine for spotlighting my brand during the height of the pandemic, a time when such support meant more than ever.
I’m especially honored to have been included by the legendary Jamel Shabazz in his segment of the HBO Gordon Parks documentary.
I also want to recognize platforms like Hella Black, Shop BOB, and Caravan Social Club, as well as collaborators like Daniel Stevens and Bendino Camillo.
And of course, to my family, friends, models, clients, and loyal patrons—thank you for your unwavering support through every high and low. I carry your love and belief in every project I touch.
