We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monica Nicole, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When I think about risk, the quote “no risk, no reward” comes to mind. I took a huge risk 4 years ago when I uprooted my life and career in California and relocated to Atlanta. I completely started over by building my clientele and having to take a part-time job to get to where I needed to be as a hairdresser. Risks are all about being temporarily uncomfortable to become a better version of yourself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been in the beauty industry for over 20 years.  Within this time, of course, I have been introduced to many different facets of working relationships between stylists and their clients. I have always valued the community and support that I have found in my clients. A relationship of pure trust; I have laughed and cried with many of my clients.  I am ever grateful to know that my work has birthed long-lasting friendships where I can be myself- not Monica the hairstylist, or Monica the makeup artist, my clients allow me to simply be myself and encourage me to be the best version of myself.

Along those same lines, I am the best version of myself when I remain challenged and engaged in my craft. What has always kept me engaged is the idea of learning and remaining teachable in my field. As long as I am always in the mindset of learning, I will just as long be able to show up and show out for my clients during the most important moments of their lives. I have followed this mindset for the entirety of my career. In fact, I have achieved the position of where I am now by learning and shadowing my more seasoned peers. During the freshman years of my career, I felt as if everything about me and my work had to be perfect; needless to say, I put a ton of pressure on myself in this season of my work. Over time, however,  I realized that I needed to focus primarily on the needs of my clients. When I show up giving my best, and the client is taken care of, that is all that matters!

I want the world to know that you will always get the best of me when you sit in my chair. Don’t believe me, just watch!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My friends like to have FUN! So, we’re definitely hitting the rooftop at Ponce City Market.  We’ll stop by BQE for some appetizers. The day following, you can more than likely find my group taking a day trip to the wineries because who doesn’t like wine in the middle of the day?! I am sure we can al

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
That would be my sister. She has ALWAYS had my back and been my biggest cheerleader. Even when I decided to move. She may not have wanted me to leave, but I had her support.
