We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Gallego and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica , can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
I’m not much of a book reader but, one book that i read that made a lasting impression on me was Princess: A True Story of Life Behind the Veil in Saudi Arabia. It was well-written and I couldn’t put the book down. The “Princess” led a very interesting life but was also sad at the same time. It made me reflect on how lucky I am to have grown up in an environment were women were respected and not treated as second class citizens.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My work recently got featured in a magazine and I’m excited to do more photoshoots and editorials. I love that I get to try different looks and be creative when I’m on set.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My must-see sites around the city are: CNN – I would recommend doing the tour. Georgia Aquarium – Its the biggest in the world and I was quite in awe when I went there. The dolphin show was fun to watch too. World of Coca-Cola – You get to try sodas from around the world. Ponce City Market – Lots of food options and you can also walk or bike around the beltline. Jackson Street Bridge – Whether you’re a Walking Dead fan or not, this spot gives you the best view of the city’s skyline. Stone Mountain Park – You can hike up the mountain, but if that’s not your think, you can take the funicular to go up the mountain. Buford Highway – If you love food, then definitely a must! It’s basically the international highway. Lots of different options and cuisines to try. I’m a huge foodie, so I have a lot of restaurants that I have in mind. But here are a few of my favorites: Taaj Market – Best Persian food! Nothing fancy, but good food and friendly staff. I love the beef and chicken koobiodeh. Desta’s – If you haven’t tried Ethiopian food, then you must! We love ordering the Meat Lovers Tibs and Miser. BBQ Corner 2 – If you like Chinese food, this is the best in my opinion. They have traditional and Chinese-American food on their menu. My favorite is the Beef with peking sauce. El Viejon – Love their chorizo tacos in handmade tortillas Bones – If you want steak and want to splurge a little, this is the place. Their steak is the best in the city. Big D’s BBQ – This place is way outside the perimeter. Located in Dawsonville, GA. Their barbecue is the best! i love the brisket sandwich. You can also do a bit of shopping at the outlets to make your drive worthwile
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and friends for encouraging me to pursue a career in doing makeup. Also, my instructor, Ren Thomas. I was able to hone my skills and learn new ones,
