We had the good fortune of connecting with MJ Ji and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MJ, why did you pursue a creative career?
I love learning new things. Although I have been making art since I was young, I still feel like there is so much more to discover in art. I primarily draw and doodle, and occasionally create some digital art. I tend to be an impulsive project starter, which has led to some awesome collaborations over the years. I have been fortunate to collaborate on a streetwear collection, design album covers, create event merchandise, and make some sick posters. Most recently, I learned how to crochet through watching YouTube videos. I make art because I enjoy it and I am curious to see where my mind will go. It’s cool when other people like it too.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art brand is MINDSHOT. MINDSHOT incorporates cute drawings, horror art, abstract patterns, and textile/fashion. The idea behind MINDSHOT is that creating is a gift to yourself. You can make anything if you want to. I make art because I love how I can turn “nothing” into something of value.

I’m most proud of my original character, the wabbit. The wabbit is a rabbit-like species that can manifest in diverse forms, from gummy looking cartoons to horror monsters. It represents the possibilities of art, how one character can be interpreted in many different ways. It’s become my signature in some ways, always in my art in one way or another (who doesn’t love a good easter egg?)

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
