We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Oaks Paxton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Misty, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Well initially, I pursued a “safe” career. While I was always fascinated by spirituality and metaphysics, I thought it better to pursue the safety of a legal career–something I could always make money doing. I got caught up in the societal programing of: go to school, get a degree, get a job, get married, buy a house, raise a family, and eventually retire. I followed the prescribed plan for many years, only to realize I was stressed, pressured, overwhelmed and miserable the majority of the time. There was pressure from my clients, pressure from my employer, and pressure from myself to know more, do more and be more than I was, in order to satisfy everyone.

It was during these stressful times that I was led back to my spiritual practices of meditation, mindfulness, energy work and card readings to bring me peace of mind and calmness of spirit. I became fascinated by all I was learning and was enlivened every single time I dove further into spirituality and Universal laws. I started doing card readings for close friends and family, and my passion was set on fire by the downloads I was being given from spirit to share with others. My super supportive husband encouraged me to expand further and share more of my practices with the world. At first, I was filled with self-doubt, wondering if what I had to offer would be valuable to anyone. But the more I did it, the more I shared my passions and gifts with others, I noticed that more value was added to their lives, as well as mine. I felt a difference in my own life and the lives of those I worked with and ever since then, I’ve been in hot pursuit of my calling.

What should our readers know about your business?
My brand is The Spiritual Attorney and I get a lot of questions about what that is exactly. The same thing you would see a regular attorney for, to help you navigate man-made societal laws, is the same thing you would see a Spiritual Attorney for, to help you navigate, higher, Universal, spiritual laws.

Currently, the world is in a crisis of consciousness, awakening from a Matrix that no longer works and wondering where we go from here as a humanity. Everyone is searching for the truth and looking for something to believe in. While many spiritual teachers or new thought leaders attempt to provide answers by using outside tools and methods, what sets me apart is my mission to help each person reconnect to the most high spirit that is within each of them. My job is to lead my clients back to the truth that is already inside them, to that still small voice that guides them and will never steer them wrong, to the divine that resides within. While I use several different techniques to do this and many tools, including cards, crystals, sound, and reiki, among others, the goal is always to reintroduce my clients to their true and highest selves.

Of course, I have faced ridicule and criticism, especially having grown up with a Christian background. My beliefs and practices go against the grain of what I have been raised to accept as true, and many who subscribe to a particular religion view more expansive spiritual practices with disdain. So it is not easy to be judged by those who think their way is the only way. But the journey of self-discovery and self-actualization is not designed to be easy. It is the hero’s journey, full of plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering how it’s all going to turn out. Sometimes you have to go through those valleys to figure out who you really are and what you’re made of. It’s those challenges that make the victories so worth it.

Today, I am most proud that I am living as my authentic self, and that I have answered the call to do this most sacred work on a larger scale. I am most proud that I have worked with hundreds of clients and have received reports from each of them about the miraculous changes happening in their lives as they continue the deeper work of transforming from the inside out. And I am most excited about the upcoming release of my first book entitled, FOCUS: Redirect the Magnifying Glass of Your Life to Live the Life of Your Dreams, and the subsequent Oracle Card Deck of the same name that will be a companion to the book. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well with me being The Spiritual Attorney, most of our activities will be centered around getting centered! Our rising would consist of climbing either Stone Mountain or Arabia Mountain and meditating to ground and center ourselves and set our intentions for the day. Or in the alternative, we might start by doing hot yoga at Highland Yoga in Decatur. Then we would have breakfast/brunch at Egg Harbor Cafe in Buckhead because they have fabulous gluten-free pancakes and fresh squeezed orange-strawberry juice.

We might spend our afternoon doing a spa day at IWI Fresh Oasis, which is a beautiful space owned by one of my fellow healer friends, Yolanda Owens, with several offerings for the mind, body and spirit, including: body scrubs, reflexology, yoni steam, hydrotherapy, and a Himalayan salt room. After that, we might go shop for some beautiful crystal gemstone jewelry and African artwork at Timbuktu Art Colony, or explore all the crystals, headwraps, plants, and numerous healing tools that my dear sister Queen Yenn has for sale at Shamba Cultivating Grounds in East Point. If we wanted a mid-day smoothie or rejuvenating juice, we might check out Moorish Medicine in Decatur or grab a kale wrap from the famous Tassili’s Raw Reality in the West End. On a Wednesday night, we might go check out a free enlightenment talk by a fabulous presenter at The Enlightened Collective in Little 5 Points. And for dinner, we would definitely eat at my favorite Ethiopian restaurant with the tastiest food and most potent honey wine ever, Mela Ethiopian Kitchen in Decatur.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to my wonderful husband, DuJuan Paxton, who has always encouraged, inspired, and supported me in becoming my best and highest self! I don’t feel I would be as aligned with my life’s purpose, nor living as the authentically evolving being I am if it wasn’t for him and his love. I am forever grateful!

Shoutout to all of my clients who give me the honor of being their trusted advisor on their spiritual journeys. It’s not an easy thing to let someone in when you’re searching for answers, guidance and clarity, but they so graciously open their hearts and receive the offerings I bring with gratitude. By allowing me to be of service to them, they allow me to fulfill my passion and purpose and for that, I am forever grateful.

Shoutout all of my spiritual teachers, mentors, and fellow lightworkers on this journey to help heal and enlighten the world! The road is not always easy, the path is not always clear, and the work is not always fun, but we are here to midwife more love, light, and peace into the world, so it’s always worth it. I salute you!
