We had the good fortune of connecting with Misty Banknell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Misty, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted an office that was peaceful and inviting that offered a VIP experience for each patient. I do not want to be rushed or my patients to feel rushed. I want them to know that someone knows them and their skin and is on this journey with them. I wanted to offer state-of-the-art technology for natural rejuvenation. I do not like for people to look fake and overfilled. This is where lasers, biostimulators, and other devices come in to play. If people do more rejuvenation with multiple modalities like that, they will maintain a more youthful, natural appearance.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I opened my med spa because I found others lacking. I was semi-retired and moved to Atlanta to have a new experience and enjoy my life. I interviewed at multiple med spas but I definitely could not work for places that I didn’t believe in. I like quality equipment that produces results and quality patient care! The patient should always come first. My Med Spa is catered to the individual. We do not believe in pushing procedures or products that don’t work. We want you to have the best experience and best care possible! I know that this is what sets us apart from others.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I lived in Midtown for a couple of years before moving to East Cobb. Midtown has so many great restaurants. I would stay in my friend’s condo for a couple of days and take them around to all the great restaurants like Bulla, Steamhouse, Olive Bistro, & The Nook to name a few. We would ride our bikes on the beltline and stop at different places like Lady Bird’s and New Realm. We would definitely have to go play Fowling or Top Golf. Fowling is my fav! The Battery is always fun and there is so much to do over there. In our little neck of the woods, we have some great little dives with fun games like Bradley’s and The Suburban Tap. For a more upscale dinner, we would go to Seed or hit Canton Street in Roswell.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I started in dermatology 26 years ago, I was working as a surgical technologist for Dr. David Cohen in Macon, Georgia. He was the smartest man I had ever met. Through his wisdom and love for Dermatology, I found my calling! I really thought that Dermatology would be boring and only about warts and acne but boy, was I wrong! There are so many skin diseases and it so much more involved than you could ever imagine. We get to actually see our organ and it is still more complex than you can ever imagine. He encouraged me to go to PA School which changed my life forever. I got to do what I loved and learned so much along the way. I’ve learned from all the best, Dr. Michael Sharkey, Dr. Russell Harris, Dr. Darryl Hodson, Dr. Mark Bonner, many PAs, Jason Cheyney, Jim Lekas, & Huntley Sanders. I hope I’m not leaving anyone out but so many people have taught me so much. I DEFINITELY can not forget Christi Gibson, PA-C who trained me in cosmetics and passed on her expert aesthetic skills. I am SO THANKFUL that GA Dermatology & Skin Cancer Center put me through a rigorous cosmetic training course and taught me how important advanced training is. Last but certainly not least, my boyfriend, Dr. Travis Cross. He owns Cross Spine & Disc in Sandy Springs. He has my same values of loving what he does and wanting to help each and every patient. He’s right up there with Dr. Cohen as being one of the smartest people I know. He specializes in decompression chiropractic, physical therapy, and personal training to optimize his patient’s spine health. He encouraged me to open my own med spa because he knows from experience that owning your own place is the only way to ensure your patients receive the best care.
