We had the good fortune of connecting with Mister Overstreet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mister, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
One of my favorite quotes is “DO, or Do Not…There is no Try”

I’m a Star Wars fan and this line has stuck with me since the first time I ever heard it. As a kid, I would always say “I’m trying” to do something. Master Yoda made it perfectly clear to me that there is no gray area when it comes to results. Either you do, or you don’t. When looking at everything from that perspective, it helps to fight self doubt, fear, and complacency head on.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Artist/Creative is the perfect title, because my life is revolved around all things creative. Music is my first love and passion, to which I pursued a career in the music business as an artist. After achieving moderate success in the industry, I evolved to becoming a videographer and photographer, by documenting a lot of my experiences in the music industry. This would lead to me doing both videography and photography as a profession, securing clients in the entertainment field, expanding out to a more diversified clientele of corporate entities and a variety of other business professionals and talents.

The road was definitely Not easy, by far. I always say that the music industry has broken my heart over a thousand times, while mending it back together, just to break it again. It’s a very shrewd business, full of politics, and very little integrity. It’s certainly not for the faint at heart. You have to really Love playing the game of the music industry. One of the ways I learned to overcome the challenges, was to maintain my own moral standards of integrity, principle, and nurturing relationships. Being able to adapt to change, communicate in a respectful and professional manner, and learning to reinvent myself, helped a great deal. Ultimately, never losing my love and passion for the music is what sustained me thru the years. That and the explosion of the internet.

A few of the biggest lessons I’ve learned: a) don’t burn bridges…It’s inevitable that you will meet those same people again under different circumstances. How will they remember you? b) Say what you mean, and mean what you say…stand for something c) Consistency pays off…once you start, don’t stop d) Exist on your own terms…do YOU

What I want the world to know about me is that I’m very passionate about pouring into people, thru my music, my creative writing, and visual arts. My story is that of someone who turned their Dreams into a Reality, then realized that dreams and Success are two different things. So now, I’m on the road to MY definition of success, while helping others curate their own personal talents and purpose. Perseverance has led to me having a career in the music business as an artist and consultant, to founding my own media company, Ishotcha Media, for videography and photography, to becoming a published author, sharing my story in hopes of inspiring others.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Wow…this happens to me all of the time and I don’t really look forward to it, but here’s some go to locations and things to do:

Places to hang out – the Battery, Ponce City Market, the Beltline, Atlantic Station, Edgewood and Peters Street strips

Places to visit – Aquarium, King Center, Trap Museum, Coca Cola Museum, Stone Mountain, Sweet Auburn

Places to eat – Spondivits, Big Daddy’s, Sundial…it’s way too many eating spots to name, as a matter of fact, All of the spots listed to hang out and visit have great restaurants and bars

Interesting and exciting people are definitely in Little Five Points, in every hood area, from Old National, Bankhead, to Candler Rd, and of course, the Atlanta Strip Clubs…shoutout to Blue Flame, Magic City, Strokers, and even Pink Pony to name a few. You can’t visit Atlanta without experiencing the strip clubs….best wings by the way

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a very supportive group of childhood friends that have been a part of my story and still are to this day. We’ve all experienced our fair share of failures and success, but with the support and encouragement of each other along the way. They definitely deserve some recognition in my story and have been rewarded as such in my book that I released this year, Inside Looking IN. But the person who gets the majority of the credit, would be my daughter, Genesis Lyric. Once she was born, it helped me to focus, gave me extra drive and determination to succeed at all costs, ultimately helping to define my purpose in my life.
