Meet Miss Redd

We had the good fortune of connecting with Miss Redd and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miss, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In my life I know there is no way I could have achieved anything possible in my life without having a constant prayer in my daily life.Prayer has been a way for me to clear my mind and give all the worries or concerns to GOD. Once I made the decision to submit everything in my life to GOD and place all my concerns in his hands–a huge weight was lifted. I understand that as long as I am being faithful and obedient to my heavenly father, I know he will not forsake me. I also meditate to keep a clear mind, especially when I feel like I am being pulled in many directions and need clarity on decisions. “Miss Redd” has ALWAYS been inside of me-kind of like Sasha Fierce in Beyonce.lol. But in my younger years, a different title had to take precedence. MOM.I was always destined to be “more” and entrepreneur and in entertainment, which is why I always need prayer for guidance. After I did my “mom” duties and got my child through graduate school and currently plays pro basketball in Europe. I decided it was it was MY TIME to do me. I always wanted to be my own boss/entrepreneur. I have always been a flashy dresser with a big personality. I thought why not a podcast, so I can have a stage/platform to speak on and give my insight on topics. Again; prayer was the driving force because I knew entertainment was my lane–I just did not know where to begin, especially at this age. The podcast is a dream come true for me and I want to continue to build my “Miss Redd” brand as a household name all over the world doing what I love. The Miss Redd brand is who I am in and out. Look out Oprah Miss Redd is coming for your spot!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Well, I am not a “spring chicken” and NOW I am doing a whole career transition. I know it’s hard to believe I am not, but I just look like I am 25..lol –My own child is 28!! lol
I have been a classroom teacher to special needs students for almost 20 years, which is my entire teaching career. To now following my dreams of hosting and producing my very own show with a full production team in a state-of the-art multi-media studio. The Miss Redd Podcast Show is home to KRE Studios which is located in Lawrenceville, a suburb just north of Atlanta.
I do not believe there are many 50-year-old moms-OR JUST PEOPLE- who would be comfortable with this type of life /career transition or change. I literally jumped right in headfirst. My journey into the classroom has a story of its own-which is why me finally getting the opportunity to have my own show is a dream come true! Anytime my podcast has been mentioned to anyone, every single person has said “OMG”, “WOW” or “That’s awesome.” They are very shocked and surprised. There will always be naysayers or “haters” but I believe in what GOD places in my spirit ro give it your all. No matter what anyone else thinks.
What sets me apart is my overall vibrant personality and my way of engaging and interacting with people in conversation by reading their energy. The energy in the room is usually led by the leader in the room. In my case, in my classes which has me leading varying high school kids and now adults on my show. Now, I have to lead adults in conversations as a podcast host. For example, at school if a student is acting out and no one is able to calm them down– every time the student either just walks into my class, someone sends them to my class, or I go get them myself to bring down the negative energy. That comes from me building relationships. If you can build positive clean energy and connection the rest will follow. This is even more so important in a podcast because I have to exude this through a tv screen or audio to my audience. Since they are watching from their TVs, they can’t just walk in the room and say, “I need to tell you something.” I would hope my energy I’m sending to them would make my audience feel that way.
Being a basketball mom, team mom, and high school teacher has taught me how to leverage my time. At one point I was doing all of this while getting a REQUIRED master’s degree. Meaning no masters–no job!! I had to get it done and I did it all as a single mom. There is no other way I could have made it without God’s Grace and Mercy!!
As Miss Redd, I want people to know there is a relatable foundation to me that I will use to uplift, help and be a voice to the voiceless. It’s never too late to follow your dreams!!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am really a person that loves a nice ambiance, and my handbag needs its own seat lol. I really do not like the crazy drivers in down ATL, but everyone has to go so here we go. I also prefer like to go to places when I now the owner or GM of the establishment.
Some of my favorite spots are:
Little Alley Steakhouse in Buckhead. I am not a steak lover, but I love their everything. Everything is ala cart and sharable and the steaks are amazing. Full bar of amazing drinks
My favorite food is seafood. Oceanaire in downtown Atlanta has a great seafood menu of options. My favorites are the lobster tails, and they have nice cocktails drinks.
On a Tuesday we would have to find the best Taco Tuesday spot and have margaritas!!
If there was a basketball game or concert in town at State Farm Arena.
Attend an event at the Ga. Dome.
There are a lot of beautiful rooftops in Atlanta by the Benz stadium with live music. very relaxing
Places with live music playing while you enjoyed dinner. (Kat’s Kafe)
Chops Lobster Bar Atlanta (Only thing is the tables are so close and you have to walk far–but food is good)
Aria
5Church in Midtown
These restaurants require a dress code and will turn you away if not dressed correctly and I like that,
My fav are Thai Food, Mexican and seafood!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The one person who deserves a big shoutout in my life would definitely be my mommy, Mary Edith Henry Dameron. She is the original diva! Although she is now in heaven sitting on her platinum encrusted throne looking down at me, I pray she is proud of me and the women I have become in my career, being a mother and a woman in Christ, Love you mommy!!
