We had the good fortune of connecting with Mirandia Coger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mirandia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
If I’m honest I never imagined being a business owner of 2 businesses, but I was determined to be the change that I wanted to see. When I launched, I’m God’s Girl LLC I was determined to help young girls and women see themselves differently. In addition to that I wanted to be a change agent for the childcare community, help organizations network and motivate others so I’m working on launching Change Agency LLC. Even though both businesses are different I get to show up and be a change agent in every aspect.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have worked in the childcare industry for 12 years. I have been a childcare teacher but now I have transitioned to a childcare director. Watching kids grow and develop brings me so much joy. I’ve always known that teaching is what I wanted to do. I thought I would be an elementary teacher, but after taking Early Childhood Tech Classes in Highschool I knew that this was the field I wanted to me in. It wasn’t easy because just like any job you have bad apples (people in it just for the money, in-conducive environments etc.) and it can cause you to question whether it is worth it. One thing I have learned though is that if I remind myself of my “why” it brings me back to focus. The skills I have learned from the childcare industry has helped me bridge the gap when it comes to my personal brand. I’ve been able to use my leaderships skills to host conferences for women and young girls, been able to assist organizations with securing grants and used my ability to effectively communicate to write a book.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m still fairly new to Atlanta but I want to go to this place called Spin Art Nation its where you have this canvas that you add paint to and then you spin it creating the most beautiful art piece. Then for lunch I would have to take them to Southern Kitchen and Grill, they have some amazing soul food. Of course, we would have to stop at Cinnaholic for some dessert where everything is vegan, but it is so delightful. What is a trip without shopping so I would have to take them to my First Lady Boutique called Phineka’s Boutique. Then for dinner I want to visit Parkside District. Of course, you need a night cap so I would love to visit a speakeasy that’s called Eleanor’s where you walk through a cooler door and it on the other side is a lounge. These are just a few places I have been and would like to go.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many to name but the first one I have to say is God who keeps me grounded. Then it would be my mom, Ronda Moss. In 2016 she committed suicide, but her death resurrected life in me. It pushed me to keep going. As I have journeyed through life, I have also met some amazing women I call my S.Q.U.A.D (Sisters who are Qualified, Unique and Different). Eisha who is the founder of The HBCU STEMulUS & Joel, my best friend who founded The Pineapple Vision, are two people who deserve some recognition and exposure. I have seen them both overcome many obstacles and they have pushed me over some major circumstances myself. I am so grateful for them.
