We had the good fortune of connecting with Miles Megaciph and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miles, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Megaciph music is necessary in a world where healing music and vibrations are lacking. My music is free of misogyny, militarism and materialism. I came up in the “Golden era” of Hip-Hop when the culture reflected the beauty and diversity of Black consciousness, and I wanted to represent this sentiment in my music.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Megaciph is an acronym for Mental Energies Gather And Circulate In Positive Harmony; this is my life and art mantra. I approach the music from the soul with the end goal of liberation, I like to say, “I make liberation music.” The listener won’t find cliches or trending phrases in my lyrics, instead they will begin to discover themselves wrapped in timeless concepts of justice, love and liberation from the ego. In 2017 I landed a coveted distribution deal with AWAL and have released at least one project every year since. I am inspired by the collaborations which continue to come my way and the steadily growing network of artists and creatives in my circle. Megaciph music is truly the big cipher creating an ever growing big circle of influence. I want people to know that rap music is more than ego and bragging; this is a music that unifies and heals when it is made with love.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am into fitness, food and music so we would plan an itinerary that includes morning outings to engage the mind and body: 1. Walks around, and up Stone Mountain
2. Yoga and Tai-chi practices led by me in Piedmont Park
3. Walks along the Chattahoochee and the Beltline
4. Bike rides to explore the city and beat the traffic

We would enjoy some of my favorite restaurants and eateries (no particular order):
Java Jive and Flying Biscuit for breakfast if we’re not eating at my home (I’m an excellent cook/chef), Asian food along Buford highway, we would get our bread and deli provisions from Evergreen butcher and bakery in East Atlanta. For dinner and beers we would have to stop by The Wrecking Bar in little 5 points. Pizza is always at Felinnis or Amazza.

For the nightlife, as an artist, I tend to enjoy the live performance venues in East Atlanta village and a few other select venues and promoters:
– I am a member of Soul Food Cypher and every 4th Sunday you can find me participating in the freestyle event
– Southern Feed Store is a regular Tuesday night outing for Megaciph
– I Lounge is a spot with a great weekly lineup, especially their Wednesday night competitions
– East Atlanta Treehouse is one of my favorites, with the Takeoff Tuesday open mic
– I LOVE the weekly jam sessions at Gallery 992 known as Reverence
– I LOVE the weekly jam sessions at Peters Street Station
– Apache Cafe XLR has a great weekly schedule
– We would also try to catch up with events hosted by both Drez The Beatnik and DJ Kemit if possible

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife of 20+ years; Hanna Alemayehu, a practicing pediatric surgeon at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, has been my number 1 supporter and fan. She has been my muse for multiple albums and projects. Her trust in me to raise our three children has enabled me to become the #hiphoppapoppa in name and spirit. I thank my wife for pushing me to “make the music” and “enjoy the process” without thinking about the end product.
