We had the good fortune of connecting with Miles Brockman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miles, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process around starting my own business was simple, I want to create generational wealth for my family! I believe every individual should have some type of business or side hustle outside of their regular 9-5.
My business which is called Big Smoove Auto Detailing, LLC, is based out of Southfield, MI and I provide mobile auto detailing services to customers in the Metro Detroit area. I started my business in 2019, with literally a water house, a bucket, car soap, glass cleaner and tire shine. My god-sister Jaymi Hall, who believed in me, invested in me and bought me my first piece of real detailing equipment!
Prior to 2019, I would just clean cars for fun and just because it brought me enjoyment and peace. I never thought about doing it for money. It took my god-sister believing in me to really put some thought into it and tell myself “I can do this”. Of course I had doubts, but I knew that with hard work and dedication I could make it happen. When I am cleaning a car I don’t consider it work this is my passion and I love what I do!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of how dedicated I am. I work a regular 9-5 every day and when I get off I get straight to detailing cars. I work seven days a week. In order to obtain anything great in life you must work hard and sacrifice somethings.
Running a business is not easy, there are somedays where I really just do not feel like cleaning a car. Then I remember I have a family to create generational wealth for a legacy to build and that keeps me motivated and driven. One of the major lessons that I have learned along the way is patience and that entrepreneurship is not easy. One week business could be booming, the next week I might only have one customer. That has taught me to remain patient and diligent.
I want the world to know that I am a hard working and humble young man. I love my business, and my goal everyday is to improve and find ways that I can make my business better each day.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Detroit, I would take them to these places:
-Belle Isle
-The RiverWalk
-Detroit Zoo
-Jagged Fork
-Coney Island
-Benihana
-The Belt
-350 Terrace
-The Motown Museum
-The Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History
The city of Detroit has a very rich history, and I would want my friend to learn about that history. We are the MotorCity! Great food, great night life, great people! This is what I call a great week!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this to my three deceased grandparents, Jordan and Ida Brockman and Jackie Cooper Jr. They always supported me in everything that I did when they were living and I know they would be so proud to see my business flourish as much as it has.
