We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, what is the most important factor behind your success?
God!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started writing in 2002 when I was in love. Lol. As a poet once said ‘once in love, everyone is a poet’. I didn’t see myself as an Author then. But I was crazy about writing that I could write on everything and anything. Then I started writing poems, etiquettes and witty words. I realised my inspiration was from dreams and and the physical world around me and my closest friend were my book and pen. I felt like I was a vessel used to communicate to the world through writing. My father encouraged me when my siblings complained about my attitude of writing on their clothes and bags and books, he will simply get them new ones and encourage me to ignore them and do what makes me happy. I believe he realised that writing was like a panacea to me.

I later discovered that my friends started using my write ups to woo females to themselves and others started becoming highly influenced by my writing. Well I gained Admission into the university to study Business Administration and I discovered a passion in music and my writing talent boosted me as I could write twenty(20) lyrics a day. Once I remember I wrote an article titled ‘ Dream’ and I pasted it in the school campus and was surprised at the number of students and staff who read it and talked about it. Then internet wasn’t a visibility as it is today I believe I would have had millions of followers. Lol. Again I realise that my talent go through eternity and I decided believe I am ‘A man of all moments’ Whatever I write remains evergreen. Even my music sounds evergreen! In 2005 I wrote Two Novels Titled ‘Esiri The Little Mermaid and Dreamers become Winners.

In 2017’ Twelve(12) years later I decided to share my writing talent with the global audience and four of my books were published titled: Dreamers become Winners, Esiri The Little Mermaid, Literary Composition Nursery and Basic 1. These books went viral in Nigeria. I think my legacy will be in my talent as it will remain evergreen as long as time exist

In 2018 I left Nigeria for The Gambia. In 2021 in The Gambia I published a Novel Titled ‘Once Upon A Time In The Gambia’ This Novel speaks against Sexual and Gender Base Violence (SGBV). It was launched in October the same year and recommended by the ministry of education the Gambia to be used in secondary schools.
From popular demand it’s currently adapted in a Movie.
What sets me apart is the will to change and never give up! I realised all my Novels always talk about hope! never give! you can make it!…I have written more than fifty (50) Novels.
I am so excited when I see the the great impact of my talent on people who read them. I feel deep within that I am on the right tract.

I have learned that to be successful you need these five keys:
*Know your God
*Know yourself
*Believe in yourself
*Be disciplined
*Go after your dreams

I am a born Author and Tutor and will as long as I live use my talent for the betterment of humanity. Am a world changer, a pace setter, that great light that has refuse to dim!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Gambia where I currently reside is next to the smallest country in West Africa with few tourist sites. The best could be the beach where one can sun bath and enjoy the ebbing and tiding of the ocean and I love writing by the beach.

Tourist can also prefer Senegambia as it’s filled with clubs, restaurant and bars.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out goes to God who fashioned me wonderfully! Then to my parents especially my father, who denied himself of the goodies of life to push us to where we are. My dad must be a superman! Then to every child who believe in the beauty of their dreams and love my creativity. I also love to give a shout out to Prof chinua Achebe whose creativity inspired me. My publisher ‘Ayovola print’ who believed in me when no one did. Trust me the journey is long and if I am to give a shout out to each and everyone who deserves it, the sky been a book and the ocean ink, still won’t be enough!
