We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Flowers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I realized what I was seeking didn’t exist or wasn’t up to my standards so I decided to create what I wish to see. Whatever industry I bring my own unique twist to it. Be it jewelry, photography, energy work or sneaker design.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a creative alchemist. Always have been however I’ve called it different names at different points of my journey. When I became Reiki Attuned in 2017 I realized that I could infuse anything I created with Reiki healing energy. For the past 7 years I’ve been dedicating my work to healing myself and helping others heal themselves too. I provide reiki infused creations including wearable art and curated experiences.
I have been making jewelry since I was a child and have been taking photos since high school. I was fortunate enough to continue as an artist and become a Museum Exhibited Jeweler and Photographer. It hasn’t been easy but I’ve been a professional artist since 2011. When things got tough my community reminded me of who I was.
My career has transformed into different disciplines under wearable art and imagery. I am currently adding new skills to my jewelry making which includes Metalsmithing. I always wanted to make my own pendants, rings and bracelets. I now know how to work with different types of metal and make pieces from precious metal.
I embarked on my metalsmithing career after my Mother passed away so that I could transmute my grief. Metal has been very therapeutic for me. In addition to working with metal I’ve been enjoying customizing sneakers again. I am focusing on custom charm jewelry and sneaker charms. I’ve always enjoyed creating wearable art and my mom and I both loved Charm Bracelets so this is what I am doing in remembrance of my Mom.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Atlanta I enjoy going to Little five points. I enjoy going to Moods Music and Junkmans Daughter. I’ve been going there since I was a child visiting with my family.
Food wise I really like this Vegan takeout spot called Waffle Taco. They have this really good Waffle Taco called the Montego it’s made with really nicely seasoned Oyster Mushrooms and plantains.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
During this period of my life I would like to thank myself and my spiritual practice for holding it together after massive loss and grief. I’d also like to thank the amazing staff at Torched in Asheville for helping me bring my vision to life In teaching me Metalsmithing. After my Mother passed away this March I decided to dedicate my time to healing and learning a new practice for my Jewelry Making. I have learned so much in such a short time. Nora and Meredith of Torched have been so patient and generous in sharing their way of doing Metalsmithing with me. I am so grateful for this experience.
