Meet MICHELLE BAREFIELD | Licensed Massage Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with MICHELLE BAREFIELD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MICHELLE, how does your business help the community?
My Therapy by Michelle helps the community by providing a safe space that promotes mental health and wellness.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, My Therapy by Michelle LLC, is a therapeutic massage practice based in Lawrenceville, Georgia. I specialize in targeted treatments designed for professionals, athletes, and individuals with demanding schedules who need real relief. My mission is to offer customized care that blends relaxation with results—hence our tagline, “Where Wellness Meets Results.” Every massage is intentional, focused, and catered to the unique needs of each client.
What sets me apart is my background and the way I combine skill, intuition, and education to create a healing experience—not just a service. I’ve worked in spas, chiropractic clinics, and medical settings since 2015, and that diversity allows me to meet clients where they are—whether they need deep therapeutic work, lymphatic drainage, cupping, or oncology-safe care. I also take pride in educating my clients on how to care for themselves beyond the table. It’s not just about massage—it’s about sustainable wellness.
I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built with my clients. Many of them return month after month and refer their loved ones because they know I genuinely care. I’m also excited about the growth of my signature memberships and express packages, which make it easier for busy professionals to prioritize their health consistently. I love watching clients go from stressed and stiff to relaxed and empowered.
It definitely wasn’t easy. Starting a business takes faith, consistency, and a lot of behind-the-scenes work. I’m a U.S. Army veteran and a mother, so I’ve always been disciplined—but building a client base, understanding finances, and trusting my vision took time. There were moments of doubt, slow seasons, and learning curves. But I stayed committed to the purpose: helping people feel better.
I overcame challenges by staying flexible and grounded. Whenever I faced setbacks—whether financial, emotional, or logistical—I went back to my “why.” I sought mentorship, learned from industry leaders, joined business networking groups like BNI, and remained open to feedback. I’ve learned that perseverance, prayer, and preparation are powerful when things get tough.
The biggest lesson? Don’t undervalue your gifts. Charge your worth, protect your peace, and create boundaries. Also, build systems early—automation, booking tools, and client education save time and energy. Lastly, never stop learning. The massage industry is always evolving, and I believe in growing with it to best serve my clients.
I want people to know that My Therapy by Michelle is built on purpose and passion. This isn’t just a massage business—it’s a space for healing, empowerment, and intentional care. I understand what it means to carry stress in your body while trying to carry the weight of the world. My story is one of resilience, service, and heart. And I bring all of that into every session.
