We had the good fortune of connecting with Michele Stephenson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michele, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After 30 years in the hospitality industry right out of college, I started as a Meeting Planner and now went full circle to back to being a Meeting Planner and owning my business. I was just ready to go on my own because of the relationships and trust I establish through my career and clients wanting to work with me directly. I also, wanted my freedom and did not want to work that 8am-5pm job behind a desk making money for another corporation. It was just my turn.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started my career as a Meeting Planner, then work as a Red Coat for the Marriott and grew threw the ranks in different hotels along the way. I than work for in the Restaurant Industry and Destination Management. I work also in task force and travel around the United States helping with different job responsibilities in the hotel industry.
I feel like I have come full circle and I have worked so hard to get where I am today. I was a single mom and faced many challenges along the way but always kept my eye on my goals. Here I am and I love it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Las Vegas, and I always have many visitors and they want to explore the strip but there is so much more to Vegas. I love Red Rock Canyon to go hiking on a Saturday morning, going to lunch at my favorite Italian Place and having mimosas than head down to the strip to go see a concert or a show.
The next day go to Freemont Street to check out the Art District and Container Park. Then head back to the strip for dinner at Mona Mi Gabi at Paris and watch the Bellagio Fountains dance around. Later that evening hit a night club for some fun and dancing.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to do a Shoutout to my children Dhane and Sean. They have been through all the hard and long days and were always there to support me. Now that I own my business, I have the flexibility to work anywhere even at my son’s house where I have a new grandbaby! I was just recognize with SMART Meetings magazine Women Entrepenuer of the year and I this award not only belongs to me but to my family, friends and colleagues that help me along the way.
