We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Palomba and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, what principle do you value most?
A good friend of mine, who has since passed, once told me, “Mike, if you are going to have to tell your story some day, you better make it a good one.” That idea has stuck with me for years. I think a good story has a great start, some great conflict, and the good guys winning in the end. The crowd should be rooting for them. If that’s not how people feel about you, you’re doing it wrong. Treat people well, enjoy the scenery and the moments, learn the lessons, and enjoy the journey. And live to tell about it all.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business, 3MP Atlanta, is contracted to do outside sales for big companies who don’t necessarily specialize in that. They hire us to do the dirty work, and that is something I take pride in. Knowing that we do something that very few can do, and have done it well for over 15 years, is something that makes me walk a little taller. (Which is appreciated. I’m not a very big guy.) I started in the field fresh out of college. Cold-call, impulse-based, outside sales. Earning commission for my work. If you want to be “The Boss” some day, you better put your money where your mouth is. I talk to people all the time who say they want to be an entrepreneur. Then they tell me that commission is too risky. How do you think a business owner is paid? Don’t sing it, bring it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would bring them to my office in West Midtown. Beautiful patio, and the fridge is always full. Then we’d walk up the street to The Whelan for some wings. Whelan Hot. When we’re allowed to, an Atlanta United game is the best sports atmosphere in Atlanta. Never been a soccer guy, but it’s electric. We would head to the Battery on a Braves game night and watch the action on the big screen in the courtyard while socializing with a couple hundred new friends. One night would be spent with JStar at the Basement Theater for some improv comedy, and we would hit up the actual basement at the Dark Horse in Virginia Highlands for some live band karaoke. And on Friday night we would grab a couple pies and some Tropicalia at Siracusa’s Pizzeria in Smyrna.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Family first! My mom and dad, brother and two sisters supported and shaped me growing up. Always there through any tough time. There is a sense of peace knowing that you have a team behind you, regardless of where you are in life. My wife, son, and daughter. My reason. Unconditional love and support, and a warm family dinner every night. The rocks in my world. Nothing is possible without them.
