We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Gudger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
There are many factors to consider on whether to keep going or to give up. From a business perspective, if the funds are available to continue it can take time for a new idea to bear fruit. If the funds are not available, I don’t believe it is wise for a business owner to go into personal debt on an experiment. You need some portion of the business producing enough revenue to cover the cost of experimenting with new ideas. Once the funds for a new idea are available, I give new ideas at least 1 year of effort. If after a year there appears to be nothing in the pipeline from the efforts, I would give up on the idea. If there are solid leads and potential sales in the pipeline, I would continue. Bottom line, you have to be honest with yourself as to whether or not you have real leads and prospects for any new business idea.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As VP of Business Development for Peachtree Offices, my job is to create and identify opportunities to grow our family owned office space rental business in Metro Atlanta. We are unique in the Atlanta office market due to being family owned. Since we are not beholden to investors, we have greater control over our business destiny. I am excited about the major changes which are starting to occur in office space due to COVID-19. Businesses are evaluating their office space needs and many are deciding they no longer need large amounts of office space. Employees are working from home and the work is still getting done. Companies will be downsizing their office space footprint and that is our niche. It has not been easy to stick to our core business plan which is private office space. For years everyone was telling us we needed to change to wide open coworking space. I never believed that and ignored it. Simultaneously, I spent years learning search engine optimization and internet marketing. Also, we have the best sales team in the industry to work the leads as they come in. It was not easy sticking to our core business model when it appeared the world was changing. It was not easy learning new marketing skills either. The only way I overcame these challenges was believing that the there was a place for our business model in the market. Peachtree Offices provides flexible office space, meeting rooms & virtual offices services in Metro Atlanta. Our clients range from Fortune 50 companies to sole proprietors. I knew I would have to learn new marketing skills to compete against the other much larger companies that operate in our industry.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The most influential book in my life has been the Bible because it allows me to accurately judge new information as either good or bad information. The second most influential book for me is “The Power of Focus” by Jack Canfield.
