We had the good fortune of connecting with Micah Lim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Micah, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
For me, it was all about having an outlet to spread a message and a story. As a son of two Korean immigrants, living in Metro Atlanta as a Korean-American has given me many unique experiences. Despite being only 15, I can honestly say that my childhood growing up as one of, if not the only Korean at school, shaped the
person I am.
The ignorance of other classmates – whether they judged me for the size of my eyes or what was on my plate – left a lasting impression from the start, and I even started to reject my Korean side. But as time went on, I began to realize the importance of my differences; they were what made me who I am, and I knew I needed to start taking pride in that. Due to my close proximity to Atlanta and its expanding Hip-Hop scene, it wasn’t long before I fell in love with the art and expression that came with not only Hip-Hop, but music in general. Since I already had my roots in percussion, learning the ins and outs of Hip-Hop music came naturally and quickly. I studied the culture and learned how to respect the genre and craft.
With the combination of my experiences as a Korean-American along with the location I have resided in my entire life, Atlanta, there was no way I couldn’t pursue an artistic career in Hip-Hop and share my story with the world.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My ethnicity and age are two major things that set me apart from others. As a Korean, visually, it’s already different compared to the rest of the scene, and at 15 years old, I cover the lower end of the age spectrum in the industry. That being said, I’m proud to be a representative of Korean culture and youth in Hip-Hop, and I hope to project maturity into my art to put both of these things in a good spotlight. I’m still nowhere near where I want to be with my music, however, to get where I am today took a lot of time and consistency. Balancing school and extracurriculars with music was and still is difficult, and it took a lot of discipline to focus at first, but over time, making time to work on my craft became easier and more natural. I’ve learned the significance of time management, as well as how important it is to be consistent in order to improve. I want the world to know that my story has never just been linear. There have been so many ups and downs in my short time alive, and I feel like that mentality of accepting the negatives as equal to the positives is what makes my brand human and relatable to many listeners.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Man, there are so many dope things to do here, it’s gonna be hard to pick. First, definitely gotta go out for some southern fried chicken, whether that be at Gus’s or the local country buffet (in my opinion, equally as good). One of my favorite things to do is see the Hawks play at Statefarm, and I think I’d have to take this friend to see a game. I must say, Ponce City Market is also one of the top spots to hang out at; there’s so much to do and it has a great atmosphere. Lastly, a little closer to my heart, but I’d love to take this person to the Civil Rights Museum as I feel it represents the culture of Atlanta to the fullest.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people I would love to shout out, but I’ll keep it short, and hopefully I won’t forget about anybody! I have to give a shout out to my parents first as nothing would’ve been possible without their continued support. Especially coming from a culture where a musical dream is not normally encouraged, I’ve been extremely blessed to have parents who support me in my passions. Huge shout out to the Lofi Hip-Hop community for taking me in when I was searching for a place to grow. The Shizen community has also supported me heavily throughout my journey, and I would 100% not be where I am today without those guys in there. Another shout out to my friends and family for always backing me up in my dreams, in particular my church youth group. Lastly, a few shout-outs to some particular individuals: DC, Bari, Mystery_o, L8er, and Lenell. And a special shoutout to my mentor, JUKE YOU, I honestly might not be doing music right now if it weren’t for him.
