We had the good fortune of connecting with Micah Crée and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Micah, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Born on December 31, 1998, in Saint Louis, Missouri, I embarked on my musical journey at the age of three. Music has always felt like a natural part of my life, a rhythm that resonated with me from an early age. Growing up in Saint Louis, a city rich with history, culture, and a dynamic arts scene, I was surrounded by an inspiring mix of sounds and artistic expressions that continually fueled my passion. I had the privilege of attending Grand Center Arts Academy, where I found a community that fostered and deepened my connection to music and creativity.
I’ll never forget the moment I first heard Alicia Keys’ song “Falling” on the radio. The raw emotion and soulful energy of her voice captivated me, and from that day on, I was hooked. That song sparked something in me, igniting a fire that has driven me to not only love music but to want to create it, to be part of that magic that can touch people’s lives. Alicia Keys showed me that music wasn’t just about sound; it was about storytelling, conveying emotion, and connecting with others on a deeply human level.
Pursuing a career in music is not a simple path, but it’s a journey that allows me to express my innermost thoughts and emotions while connecting with others in a way that words alone cannot achieve. Music has become my way of making sense of the world, my outlet, and my bridge to others who feel, dream, and experience life just as I do. And with every note I play, every song I write, and every performance I give, I’m reminded of the moment that first inspired me—and the journey I’m grateful to be on today.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
From the beginning, I’ve been told that my voice has a unique soulful quality that stands out—a sound reminiscent of artists like Corinne Bailey Rae, Solange Knowles, and Macy Gray. My music has always been a blend of soul and R&B, with tones that evoke emotion and tell a story, and I take great pride in that. I want my voice to be more than just sound; I want it to connect deeply with those who hear it.
My influences come from icons like Destiny’s Child, Selena, Alicia Keys, Brandy,Lauryn Hill, and Beyonce, each of whom brought their own signature style and individuality to the industry. These artists taught me that authenticity is everything. They weren’t afraid to be themselves, and they never shied away from expressing their truths, no matter how unique their voices were. From Destiny’s Child, I learned about resilience and harmony; Selena taught me the importance of passion and cultural pride; and Lauryn Hill showed me how music could be a force for storytelling and change. Beyonce and Alicia Keys inspired me to pursue a balance of strength and vulnerability in my art.
For me, music isn’t just a career—it’s a lifelong commitment to creating, growing, and sharing pieces of myself with my audience. My voice, shaped by these influences, has become my way of honoring these artists while staying true to who I am. It’s about carrying their legacy forward in my own unique way, with my own unique sound.
My journey in music has been a deeply fulfilling experience, and I’m thrilled by the response to my debut release, Metaphors EP Vol. 1. Launched on May 10, this EP marks an exciting milestone, following the release of my first single on December 31—my birthday. Metaphors EP Vol. 1 showcases four tracks that blend pop, soul, and R&B, each telling a story with heartfelt lyrics and captivating melodies.
Two of the songs, “Daydream” and “Carousel,” have been brought to life with visually stunning music videos, available on YouTube, which add layers of emotion to the music. I’m incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support, as the EP has already surpassed 214,000 streams on Spotify and has been met with encouraging words from both fans and critics.
Metaphors EP Vol. 1 is available on all major streaming platforms, and I’m excited to continue connecting with my listeners through these songs and the journey that lies ahead.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I were showing my best friend around Atlanta (where they actually live and I visit often for the music scene), I’d make sure we hit up all my favorite spots. Atlanta is my go-to getaway and feels like a second home, so I know some hidden gems and iconic spots that really capture its creative energy.
We’d kick off our week by exploring the High Museum of Art, followed by the street art and funky shops in Little Five Points. I’d also take them along the BeltLine for a mix of murals, food vendors, and maybe catch a live outdoor performance. For food, Busy Bee Cafe is a must for soul food, and we’d grab tacos from El Tesoro and coffee from the cute cafes in Cabbagetown.
For music, I’d plan a night at the Tabernacle or Aisle 5, both of which are great for live performances, and we’d wrap up the week with some nightlife in Midtown or on Edgewood Avenue. Atlanta’s culture is a blend of art, food, and music, and it’s a place that’s always buzzing with energy and creativity—it’s the perfect spot to recharge and find inspiration.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a huge shout-out to my aunt, Tiffany Irene. I truly wouldn’t be where I am in my music career without her support. She’s always believed in me, even during times when I’ve struggled to believe in myself, and she constantly pushes me to reach my potential. She’s taught me so much about the music business, sharing her knowledge and wisdom, and I’m beyond grateful for everything she’s done. Thank you, Aunt Tiffany—I wouldn’t be here without you.
