We had the good fortune of connecting with Micah Cadwell & Seersha and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Micah Cadwell &, what do you attribute your success to?
Micah:
Moonlighting has always been a collaborative, equal partnership between Seersha and me, encompassing both the music and the business of music. The key to our success lies in our ability to share the responsibilities that come with our group. Being in a band goes beyond rehearsing songs and performing shows. There are numerous other tasks, such as booking dates, managing social media, creating merchandise, designing graphics, arranging material, and recording, that require time and attention. There is always enough work to go around; we’re fortunate to be able to divide things up the way that we do.

Seersha:
I unequivocally agree with Micah. I will also add that alongside our partnership is a beautiful paradox of intentionality and flow. I think that both of us have a very distinct vision around the question of “What is Moonlighting” – the sound, the aesthetic, the experience – but we are also open to new possibilities in the journey of developing this band. It’s a space of creative tension where a lot of magic can happen.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Moonlighting is the innovative duo of guitarist Micah Cadwell and vocalist Seersha, forging an unparalleled blend of vocal jazz and 80s new wave they’ve dubbed “jazzwave.”

Seersha’s solo synthwave career and immersion in 80s music history merge with Micah’s years as a sought-after guitarist on the Southeast jazz circuit. The result is a fresh, captivating sound that’s been likened to “The Smiths meets Sarah Vaughan.”

The duo is excited to record their first longer project at Miracle Lake Studios in Camas, Washington this September.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Micah:
It’s silly but the Yellow River Wildlife Sanctuary is the best place in the world. Every time we have friends or family in town we always take them there. It never ceases to amaze.

Seersha:
The itinerary will vary based on the friend of course – but last time I had a bestie in town, we started our Saturday off with high tea at Dr. Bombay’s Underwater Tea Party, perused provisions at Candler Park Market, hung out at the Atlanta Botanical Garden for a few hours, and capped off the evening with dinner at Lucian Books and Wine. My sister and brother-in-law are coming into town soon, and I’m planning to take them to DU BU GONG BANG for their authentic tofu made in-house, and to the Best of Atlanta Comedy Showcase at Laughing Skull.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Micah:
I have an incredible, loving wife that has always been very supportive of my musical career. I’ve also been lucky to surround myself with great musicians and teachers that were eager to share all that they knew with me. Also, growing up, I had a very diverse group of friends who exposed me to all sorts of music. Music that I’m certain I would’ve never have had the chance to hear otherwise. All of those relationships, moments, songs, friendships, memories, and experiences, made me who I am.

Seersha:
I’m not trying to copypasta Micah here, but I feel strongly that I would not be doing music in a professional capacity if not for the unwavering support of my husband. And there have been countless teachers, mentors, co-writers, open mic hosts, promoters, venue owners, the list goes on – that have given me opportunities to develop as an artist and performer. There are two specific people who stand out in my mind recently. The first is Randy Sadd, manager of Guardians of the Jukebox, who took a chance on bringing me into the band, which was a very important two years of growth for me. The second is Catherine Dunne, an exceptionally gifted vocal coach who has increased my power, range, and confidence in the time we have worked together.
