Meet Mia Robinson | Chandler, Founder of Allumé by Simone

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mia Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As long as I can remember, I have had an entrepreneurial mindset. I always knew being a business owner was my destiny, but I did not know how. Little did I know, that question would be answered in the most unexpected way possible.

After I began my professional career in 2016, I began experiencing severe stress and anxiety. During this time, the most comforting thing at the end of a stressful day was coming home, pouring a glass of wine and lighting a scented candle. I loved the feeling of walking into my space and being met with a pleasant aroma. It was calming and, in a way, therapeutic for me. I knew I was not the only young professional who could use a little aromatherapy, so I made it my mission to provide the same experiences to other individuals struggling with stress and anxiety.

I originally hatched the idea for Allumé by Simone in 2019, but due to a demanding work schedule, I was unable to dedicate time to this venture. However, in January 2021 following a bout with anxiety that resulted in me taking a leave of absence from work, I finally had the time to pursue my passion. During this time, I was able to develop a decent following and successfully launch my business. Each of our classic candles have witty, tongue and cheek names such as “Boss Beach,” “Get Sheet Done,’ and “Stolen Hoodie.” With over 10 candles and 3 wax melts in our catalog, I’m confident that we have the perfect candle for all candle lovers.

“Allumé” in French means “alight” or “lit,” so it felt fitting for my candle company. I created Allumé By Simone not only to provide aromatic experiences, but also to inspire people like me to live their best, “lit” lives. In June 2021, I made the difficult decision to leave my stressful job and pursue my business full-time. Through my candle business, I hope to create a community of people who decide to choose themselves everyday and lives lives they love.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe what sets Allumé by Simone apart is our dedication to overall wellness. With my brand, I do not want to ONLY make candles. I want to inspire those around me to live “lit” lives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite places around the city is The Battery! The atmosphere is unmatched, especially if there’s a home Braves game. Whether you are looking for a girls’ night out or an upscale dinner, The Battery provides the perfect setting.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout Amber Banks, the owner of Xclusive Beauty! Xclusive Beauty is a skin care company that specializes in facials, waxing and even body treatments. Xclusive Beauty also provides home visits (in the Atlanta area)!
