We had the good fortune of connecting with Mia Richardson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mia, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
The book that changed my life was Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deeprok Chapra ! This book broke down how and why to have patience , to learn to love , listen, and move with a purpose ! I highly recommend this book to everyone, not just artist and entrepreneurs, but everyone. This book showed me how the karmic cycle works and I applied the teachings to my everyday life and I began to blossom as a person and artist! The second book I’d recommend is ART/WORK.. super informative and breaks down the art world! How you are viewed and even how you view yourself as an artist ! Definitely give that a read ! 10/10!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to think what sets me apart from other artists is my ability to display emotion and spark conversation. I like for my work to MOVE people , whether that move be uncomfortably, gently, willingly, forcefully… I enjoy people’s reactions. Everything isn’t for everyone so when a person can connect to a piece it’s quite dramatic. Almost as if the painting is giving off an aura and chooses its owner. It’s alive . It’s beautiful. My journey is still in motion ! It’s awesome ! I don’t really consider myself a professional I’m just expressive and just so happen to have a talent. The road to success isn’t easy but it sure is fun I can tell you that! The thing I’ve learned most is patience. It’s not a wall in the park. It takes a tough cookie and diligence, dedication, and so many other adjectives that mean “get up and get to work.” All in all I’d like to say that my true story hasn’t even begun! I feel as if I’m still in the introduction, there’s so much farther to go!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh wow my favorite places to hang out are arcade bars! Anywhere with Centipede and cocktails is the place to be! Here in Memphis we walk on Beale and soak in the blues being played from every bar or restaurant on the corner! We walk to the Mississippi River and watch the sunset! And you can’t forget about Overton Square with their fancy restaurants and street decor!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Id like to shoutout a few people / groups that really influenced me to push myself further. The first being Dizzy Gypsy Artist Group! Oh man ! How time has flown by , back in 2016ish Aura Leigh Sanders became my mentor. She took me under her wing and showed me the business aspects of art. Through her and her company I was taught how to excel in all aspects of marketing and communications. Thank you Al! Secondly I’d like to shout out the amazing , the one, the only , Chuck5550 of Canvas5550!!! This man was pretty much my manager and helped curate and advise my exhibits. He taught me the true meaning of responsibility and taking my work seriously. Through his company I participated in more than 10 per year. A truly amazing man! Thank you man. And lastly, of course God ! Through him ALL things are possible.
