We had the good fortune of connecting with Mia Onyeuku-Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was tired of working in gyms or spa facilities that were making hundreds of dollars off of Massage Therapy at the expense of a Therapist. Making $20/hr and some places do a 60/40 split with Therapist. When I started adding up my expenses for the month vs. paycheck it just was enough at the end to have gas to and from the job. I wasn’t able to enjoy my paycheck because expenses took most of it. I decided I needed to step up and work for myself but with a good niche.

What should our readers know about your business?
PoshMobileSpaATL is basically a One Stop Shop to Relaxing and Serene Memories. I Have been Able to Partner Up with other Black Businesses & Licensed Massage Therapists to Bring Spa Packages to Individuals, Couples and Groups. We do not just offer Massage; we offer Spa SetUp, Decor for Special Occasions, 5 star Chefs, Premium Customized Sweets such as White Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Luxury Car Service and More!! No it wasn’t easy at first making this possible but I was able to incorporate other services so consumers wouldn’t be frazzled with so much for their special occasion. My biggest challenge was being able to book other therapists that would give the same experience I would give if I booked them for a client. Because coming into this field of work everyone doesn’t have the same motives as you. I love what I do and I enjoy seeing the looks and/or the feedback received by clients. My Brand goes beyond Relax, Release & Rejuvenate you get a whole Spa Experience right to your Doorsteps in the comforts of your Home, AirBnb or Hotel. I am going to keep doing what I love and educating more in my Community about the Importance of Massage. It is NOT A LUXURY. IT IS A NECESSITY!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Ponce City Market enjoy little eateries and a little shopping during the day. But at night my favorite spots to go to are Kats Cafe on Tuesdays for Comedy Night, Rocksteady ATL for Amazing Haitian/Caribbean food and they have a Lounge upstairs to enjoy for late night cocktails, Another great spot is HobNob in Atlantic Station (upstairs 21 and older) for Wednesday Karaoke or weekends Live DJ…

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I Give credit to My Mother for Pushing me to move forward with my Dreams and Giving Me Inspirational books to keep me motivated on the days I wanted to Give Up…
