We had the good fortune of connecting with Mezsi FueGo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mezsi, how do you think about risk?
I welcome risks! I look at everything as a risk, because in actuality it is. If you take a new job, that’s a risk. You decide to learn a new instrument, that also is a risk. I’ve always been a person who likes to challenge myself, so I’m open to trying new things. However, perspective, plays a big part in risk taking as well. I wouldn’t be able to take the risk I do in my career, if my perspective was negative. I look for the good outcome in everything. No matter how bad, it might seem to others, I’m still searching for that silver lining in the cloud.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a songwriter/rapper/pianist. I wear many hats creatively. I strongly believe what sets me apart is my drive and my hunger to learn more about the arts. A few years ago, I sporadically purchased a guitar, I decided I wanted to be an accompanist, but the guitar didn’t work for me LOL. So I went to the piano, I asked my friend to borrow his during Quarantine and it’s stayed with me ever since. Now I’ve been crafting and composing, in a way I never have before. It took a lot of time , in seclusion and spending time with the instrument to see progress but I’ve been enjoying every minute of it. I learn something new everyday about the piano. NO ONE SAID IT WAS GOING TO BE EASY! It’s not easy, at all. But the way I overcome is by remaining resilient and humble. Once you get big headed, you get in the way of the music. A major lesson I learned, is to never stop learning. Once you stop learning you stop growing. I want the world to know that Mezsi FueGo, my brand , stands for being an individual, it is okay not to go with the masses, do your own thing. Be your own person, it’ll benefit you more in the end.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I currently live Maryland, but I would take my friend to the beach. I LOVE the beach and everything about it. So while we are at the beach , we gotta get some street food (street tacos are the best don’t @ me). I’m not a big drinker, more than likely , we’d have a few drinks at any random bar. Then hit the city and enjoy the views. If there’s a concert in town, go see that! I’m a simple person, I enjoy the small and simple things in life.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a shout-out to my friend Maurice Cooper. He’s no longer with us but he really has been on of my biggest supporters. He helped me to believe in me, helped me to be fearless with my voice. He passed away in November 2020, I still have his keyboard. That’s all I have to remember him. I’m so grateful for that though, he left me with the gift of music. Ever since his passing, I’ve spent most of my alone time with his piano. I miss him everyday. So shout-out to him, I love you dearly friend. You are sorely missed ❤️
