We had the good fortune of connecting with Meyakka “MeMe” Sturdivant and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meyakka “MeMe”, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m one of those small town southern girls from the City of High Point North Carolina. I grew up in the projects of Clara Cox and was raised by a single mother and the unconditional support of my maternal grandparents. They were hard working farmers and furniture manufacturing workers. I believe I first learned the art of entrepreneurship and independent hustle by watching them curate, grow and develop their own field of gardens. We had a little white, 5-room farmhouse and a man-made garden and chicken coop next to the house. The garden was a family “business venture”, though it was never called a business, that helped us learn how to build something with our hands, work hard daily with it, and feed our family and community without wanting anything. I was always the seed planter, running down the rows of dirt with the open holes filling them with just the right amount of seeds. Now in hindsight, as an adult. I realize that my grandparents never looked at gardening as an independent business but as a way for our family to build something together. Making it your own that nobody can take away from you. True heritage that I appreciate.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MS Consulting Solutions is truly that of my own!! I often find myself proudly saying I built this brand up “By Myself and For Myself” from the ground up. Coming from a 24 year executive corporate background in telecommunications, I initially started working with individuals and entrepreneurs who desire to go from the side hustle or hobby, but have the vision to start a business yet don’t know how to, legitimacy at best. Lol, just like I did but in an affordable manner. I’m a firm believer of not holding the mule when it’s time to help your fellow business owners grow, expand and be successful in their journey. My consulting and mentoring services are for the above average person and more seasoned women business owners. I will help you with the Keys 2 Success™️ that will guide you with into a highly sustainable business model that outlast with a strong foundation and business acumen that will highly impactful in society.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely travel just a little under 45 minutes outside of my city to Charlotte NC where the lights, fun environment and great food and entertainment exists. One of my favorite areas is uptown Charlotte. We would stay at an exclusive Airbnb property, take in some shopping of course at Concord Mills Mall and then go on a winery tour at either Childress Vineyards in Lexington or another close by winery location. Any of my girlfriends enjoy the smooth tasting of a great wine so that’s a must. We would definitely get our weekend Spa retreat action going by indulging in a relaxing spa brunch and followed up with some poetry and dinner at night. It’s always something to look forward to when you can get out and enjoy the simpler things in life with the friendship you adore.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My greatest shout out is from none other than my clients that continue to seek me and trust my guidance with building up their successful brands. Since starting my business 4 years ago I’ve been able to work with hundreds of small business owners and entrepreneurs who took the leap of faith and believed in themselves to develop something of their own. And of course the love and support of my children and family.
