We had the good fortune of connecting with Meray Kaur and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meray, why did you pursue a creative career?
I think pursuing any type of UN-conventional career or job is a scary thing. When I think to myself about why I do what I do it simply comes down to education and teaching. I enjoy teaching people how to feel beautiful and become a more enhanced version of themselves. With my day job its all the same as well. I teach everything from makeup, skincare, fragrance and application technique. The beauty/cosmetic industry is an Billion dollar industry. Working for a high end luxury retailer sets a very elevated expectation that I myself hold my own brand to as well. When I was graduating out of high school I knew my dream was to become an entrepreneur. I had no idea I would find myself immersed into the beauty and Special FX realm. Being a self taught artist, has many pros like ever evolving and bettering myself, My clients work with me because they get the utmost attention, education and help from me. I live my life helping others as I would want someone to do if I wasn’t doing what I am today or had the knowledge I do now. For this I am grateful, and when I’m able to create and help others I feel the most fulfilled.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The best way for me to connect with my clients is virtually since most of them do not live close. Some of them do, but we are able to fulfill orders and ship to them. The company I work for is a high end luxury retailer, Chanel. During times like these, the beauty industry has had to come up with new ways to service people. I connect via, text, call, email, or Instagram is a big one for me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, most definitely I would take them to some Korean restaurants in Duluth, GA. Some of my favorite are Jang Su Jang, tofu house, and sweet hut bakery! I love shopping at boutiques and getting jewelry/piercings at KOLO in Little 5 points. L5P also have great food spots, and I would go riding bikes in downtown Atlanta!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would most definitely like to shout out one of my mentors that have taught me so much and helped me grow still to this day. I would like to shout out, Whitney Chauhdry who has helped me transform into who I am today and getting my foot in the door to a lifelong career.
