We had the good fortune of connecting with Mena Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mena, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factors behind my success are confidence, consistency, and sacrifice. I’ve had to—and continue to—learn how to brand myself in a way that resonates with others while staying true to who I am. I’ve come to love and appreciate my unique image, realizing that as long as I’m confident in myself, others will feel that energy too. I’ve also accepted that I’m not meant to appeal to everyone, and that’s okay. This understanding has been particularly important in the fitness world, where individuality is key.

Consistency has been crucial. Whether I’m teaching or not, I make it a point to stay disciplined, showing up at the gym and following a schedule—even on days when no one else does. I’ve worked hard to ensure that my presence is both felt and valued.

Lastly, success has required sacrifice. I’ve learned that not everyone can join me on this journey. I’ve had to let go of people and situations that didn’t align with my growth mindset. There’s no room for negativity in my life or my vision. This process hasn’t been easy, but it’s been essential for my personal and professional growth.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m Coach Mena, better known as the Mean Queen, your personal fitness accountability partner. By day, I’m a Middle School educator and Cheer Coach—a role I truly love and cherish. But outside of the classroom, my passion lies in fitness. I’m proud to serve as an SBR Spin and Beastmode Bounce Instructor at SHOCK Fitness Studio, where I bring energy, excitement, and connection to every class.

My journey into fitness started about three years ago when I decided to take a chance on myself. What sets me apart is my vibrant and electrifying style—my classes aren’t just workouts; they’re experiences. Whether it’s Spin or Bounce, every session feels like a party. From high-energy music to an infectious atmosphere, I create an environment that keeps people coming back for more.

This journey, however, hasn’t been easy. I’ve faced challenges, lost friendships, and had to learn to be okay with rejection. But those “no’s” fueled my determination to push forward and celebrate even the smallest wins. Staying humble and focusing on the positives helped me remain grounded and motivated.

I’m incredibly proud that my journey has inspired others to find their strength and pursue their goals. This path has also been a process of self-discovery for me, teaching me that fitness isn’t just about physical strength—it’s about mental and emotional resilience. I’ve learned that this journey isn’t for the weak and that sometimes, you have to walk it alone.

What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that life is an adventure filled with engagement and color. My style of Bounce is truly unmatched, and my Spin classes are an unforgettable experience. Together, we can turn your fitness goals into a celebration. I’m honored to guide and cheer you on every step of the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, I’m not one to plan out an entire week in detail—I believe the best adventures happen when you go with the flow. I’m all about spontaneity and letting the world guide us to amazing experiences. That said, there are a few must-dos and favorite spots I’d absolutely include in the mix.

First, I’m a foodie at heart, so trying out new restaurants and hidden gems around the city would definitely be on the agenda. From delicious eats to creative cocktails, we’d explore the city’s culinary scene in style. I also love checking out the ATL Calendar for events—whether it’s a festival, live music, or a pop-up market, Atlanta is always buzzing with something fun to do.

On Friday, we’d kick things off with MaxxOut with Valdez for an energetic and unforgettable experience. Saturday would be dedicated to fitness, with a session of the 3 B’s: Bikes, Bootcamp, and Bounce at SHOCK—it’s a workout party like no other! Afterward, we’d treat ourselves with some amazing food and a little self-care. I’m all about a good nail and pedicure session, so that would definitely make the list.

Ultimately, the week would be a mix of great food, fitness, self-care, and unexpected adventures. With me, you’re guaranteed a fun, high-energy time—because I am the vibe!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to give all glory and thanks to God, who is the head of my life and the source of my strength.

I dedicate this journey to my late aunt, Shelly Johnson, whose memory continues to inspire me every day. I also want to express my deepest gratitude to my amazing coach, Clarisse Frazier, and the SBR family for their unwavering support and the incredible opportunities they’ve provided. They’ve shown me the power of community, reminding me that success is often tied to the strength of your network—a place where we can grow, build, and celebrate together.

My mom, Lorraine Johnson, and my husband, Horatio Robinson, have been my rock throughout this journey, providing the love and support I needed every step of the way. To all my family and friends who have taken a chance on me, stood by me and cheered me on through this process—thank you from the bottom of my heart.
