We had the good fortune of connecting with Melody Conner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melody, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I am an old man and have known a great many troubles and most of them have never happened…-Mark Twain I recently decided to submit my resignation and not return to the public education platform next year. I made the decision after hearing about the unfortunate COVID related death of a coworker who just retired last summer; she hadn’t even collected her first retirement check. This made me realize how being “realistic and responsible” has kept me from the life I truly want. Putting my current path in education on an indefinite sabbatical, was what I feared doing the most; and it was what I absolutely needed to do to change the trajectory of my life. At age 52, I have a lot more years behind me than in front of me, and I’ve chosen this time to show up for myself more so than for a job that hasn’t “shown up” for me in the same way. I have been moving so far off the common path, that I have been underestimated and called crazy for even having a dream as big as God, Himself…I have been speaking things into existence as if they were; sight unseen, yet knowing with the depth of my very being that it will, can and did happen! I’m here to tell you, to cultivate belief…BELIEVE SO HARD…and the Universe will conspire on your behalf to make it so.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Forty-five minutes outside of Atlanta and minutes from downtown Senoia; Serenità Homestead is 122 year old farmhouse that was originally built by a former enslaved farmer; named William D. Walker. I purchased the home in 2019, with the intention of operating as a bed and breakfast and small wedding venue. With my love for entertaining and creating memorable dining events along with my gift for authentic hospitality, I birthed the concept of “Sundays in Senoia Brunch”, and “Serenità Homestead Presents: the Ultimate Bourbon Experience…” As with all small businesses across the country; COVID has brought business to a standstill; yet I have utilized the time in preparing the grounds and restoring the barn for a brilliant relaunch.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A shoutout to my kiddos, my besties and industry family. They are the ones who keep me grounded, so I won’t embarrass them…lol!
