We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from New York! I lived there until 2018 when I relocated here to Atlanta. Growing up in NY majorly impacted who I am today . New Yorkers have this natural born hustle to them. We make a way no matter what. That mentality is ingrained in us. We see opportunity and that hustle mentality just clicks in. If I didn’t have that mindset I never would’ve taken the chances and risks I’ve taken for this brand/business .

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
So I started Miley Cakez in 2014 in NY. I took my love of baking and decided to turn it into a business. At the time I don’t think I honestly saw it’s potential . It certainly was doing well and turning a small profit but I didn’t see what it could really become until three years later. That’s when I introduced my clients to alcohol infused ice cream . It was a total game changer. After that I moved into a bigger space but I just knew I needed something different. After coming here to Atlanta to visit some family that’s when I knew relocating here was the best decision. It took about two years to completely rebuild clientele and start over but I toughed it out, hustled, and put the necessary work in. Covid hit and I knew it was my time. That natural hustle kicked in and took Miley Cakez to a whole new level. The brand has been growing ever since. Fast forward and now I’ve expanded and add a branch off called Mystical Moments & Events. I now offer Bubble tent rentals , photo booth rental, backyard movie night and so much more. I want people to know that if you have something you love doing make it your business and don’t let anyone talk you out of it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were to visit first place I’m taking her is to grab food! Folk Art, Slutty Vegan, Flying Biscut, personal catering from O’s Seafood/Chef Johnny , and of course Waffle House. I’d follow up with a visit to Ponce City Market, the King Center, Curb Market, Aquarium, Krog Street, Edgewood, Trap Museum and a million other places. There’s so many places and things to see here. So much history.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I absolutely have to acknowledge Toi Gosset. When I relocated here 4 years ago she allowed me to vendor at one of her events to introduce my products and services to her following/network. It helped me tremendously.
