Meet Melisa Dunkley-Smith | Author, speaker, coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melisa Dunkley-Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melisa, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most profound lesson that my business/career life have taught me is the importance of knowing that rejection is not a reflection of my worth or abilities. Instead, rejection has been a redirection to better outcomes. It look some unlearning and relearning to fully understand that hearing no sometimes create an opportunity for new possibilities.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an author, empowerment speaker and christian life coach, I empower women to become the best version of themselves through my book and also my coaching program.
What sets me apart is my ability to deeply connect with women from all walks of life, understanding their unique challenges and providing personalized guidance that inspires meaningful growth and transformation.
I am where I am today because I’ve invested time and money in my personal growth and development. Yes, it was hard, but I overcame challenges by embracing a growth mindset, identifying setbacks as opportunities, and persevering with determination. This journey has shaped me into the person I am today, equipped to empower others on their own paths to success.
Empowerment is the core of my brand. It’s more than just words – it’s a lifeline to women navigating life’s challenges. With a personal touch that speaks directly to the heart, with understanding their struggles and offering guidance that inspires strength and resilience. My community is a haven for women seeking real support, genuine guidance, and empowerment, reminding them that they are seen, heard, and capable of overcoming anything.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d definitely have a blast, creating unforgettable memories, exploring Jamaica’s vibrant culture, natural beauty and warm hospitality. We’d start in Kingston, enjoying some Seafood at Gloria’s and exploring Port Royal. Then, we’d head to St. Thomas for a little relaxation at Bath Fountain. A road trip to Negril would follow, with scenic stops, sunset views at Rick’s Café. Our adventure would take us back to the city where we would conclude with a lunch date at Kamila’s Kitchen at Skyline Drive.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shout out to my coach Crystal Daye for the unwavering support. Thanks for the tough love and the push for me to believe bigger for myself. You are truly a catalyst for growth.
