We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghan Basinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meghan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
If you asked me this question 10 years ago I’d say I was very risk-adverse in business. I was comfortable in a corporate setting as everyone’s go-to project manager. I got things done. I wasn’t the “big idea” person, I was the executer. I’m so grateful I honed those skills because I believe they are crucial as a small business owner. What good are “big ideas” and if you can’t put them into action?
But as I got older I realized I was tired of working for other people…especially when deep down I knew I had it in me to create something of my own.

My husband is all about taking risks in business. He’s always had that entrepreneurial mindset and after almost 8 years of marriage I suppose it’s rubbed off on me a bit!

Looking back I did leave my family and friends in Savannah, Georgia and go to college in New York where I knew exactly zero people. And I did fly to LGA the summer after college with a suitcase, no permanent residence and an entry-level paycheck. So I suppose I sell myself a bit short on being a risk taker!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Stevie Collective is a full-service interior design studio, e-commerce site and physical retail store north of Atlanta.

Stevie was born out of stay-at-home orders in the winter of 2020, when like so many, our family developed a greater appreciation for loving where you live. After months of dreaming and planning, we launched steviecollective.com, a carefully curated collection of her favorite decor pieces.

Quickly, our favorites grew to include lighting, rugs and custom upholstery.

Stevie Collective continues to grow, and our team opened our first retail location in Milton, Georgia in April 2021.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Moving to Atlanta from New York…I was a totally ITP (inside-the-perimeter) girl. Now, I absolutely love living in Milton and our community has everything we need right here in the ‘burbs.

My favorite summer nights are spent at Chukkar Farms enjoying music from singer/songwriters as part of their Home by Dark series. Pick up food at 7 Acres Barn + Grill and take a short drive down to the polo fields and enjoy a true country evening. It’s magical.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband! He’s been the primary bread-winner of our family since our first child was born in 2013. Yet he simultaneously supports me (with our three young children) and encourages me to chase my professional dreams, while juggling his own demanding career. There’s no idea too crazy to bring him. He’ll just sit down with me and help me figure it out.
