Meet Megan Seyfried | Wedding Floral Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Seyfried and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As a mother of four, I found myself getting lost in the throes of parenthood. I have always been a creative, and know that having a creative outlet is crucial for my mental health. However, a flexible schedule and work-life balance was most important to me. Starting my own business gave me the flexibility to give myself a creative outlet doing something I love, while still being able to attend my kids’ school functions and sporting events. I wanted to show my kids that if I can start a business, they can do anything with hard work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My floral designs are always created with nature in mind. I strive for my designs to be organic, garden-inspired and artful. I love incorporating elements to add interest and texture, and am always looking for inspiration in nature. I love to add fruit, vegetables, feathers, etc into my designs to incorporate all aspects of nature. I am always trying to think outside the box for ways to set my designs apart.
Getting to where I am today took a lot of patience. Starting a small business is scary, and a lot of times I found myself comparing myself to established designers that have been in the industry much longer than me. I knew that this was something I wanted more than anything, and that I knew I had to find a way to set myself apart. I spent hours experimenting with different types of flowers, textures, and color palettes. I spent long nights staying up watching design tutorials and practicing them. I also knew that I had a specific vision for my brand and what I wanted my florals to represent. It took years to solidify my style, but I am so proud of what my brand has become.
Along the way, I have learned that confidence in yourself is the most important thing. I just kept reminding myself “believe you can, and you’re halfway there.” I’ve learned to have patience. Success doesn’t happen overnight, it takes hard work and dedication. I’ve learned that you never stop learning. The floral industry is ever-evolving and staying on top of new trends and styles is important.
While floral design is my passion, my favorite part about my job is connecting with people. I love getting to know my couples, and its very important to me to know my couples personally, so that I can curate my designs to reflect their personality. My goal is to start the wedding planning as a vendor and end it as a friend.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, my first stop would be the Battery. I am a huge Braves fan, truly believe everyone should get to experience a Braves game. Even when there’s not a game, there are plenty of restaurants and shops to enjoy. I love Superica for a taco and margarita.
Would also have to make a trip to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. I’m biased but I love strolling the gardens and seeing all of the different plants and flowers.
Another must do for me would be Ponce City Market. I love food and I love that there’s something there for everybody. The rooftop has the best view of the city.
My favorite restaurant in Atlanta is Bartaco. I love the casual atmosphere and the outdoor dining. The pork belly taco is the best taco I’ve ever had.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my husband. When I decided to start my business on a whim with four small children at home, his support and encouragement is a huge reason I took the leap. He takes on long hours with the kids when I’m working weddings, he provides business advice when I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing, and confidence in me and my business when things get tough and I want to give up.
