Meet Megan Mincey | Hair and Makeup Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Mincey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I was younger I saw a quote about sending black kids into other communities for jobs. It sparked something in me to make sure I didn’t need to and neither will my future children. I come from a strong Lineage of Entrepreneurs specifically Barbers and Hairstylists. My thought process behind starting my business Ellure Cosmetics was to build generational wealth and to never have to go work for anyone else. Being an entrepreneur is much harder but, it fits my personality and allows me to be solely accountable for my future.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

what you are most proud of or excited about. I am most proud of my growth and what I have accomplished Whether it be projects, people I’ve gotten to personally work with, or places I’ve gone.

How did yoget to where you are today business-wise. Favor, Persistence, Prayer. I keep going.

Was it easy? Nothing, worth having is easy. Self made with some help along the way.

If not, how did you overcome the challenges? If you quite, you’ll be behind so I Keep going!

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Don’t give up. Pray and God Will meet you more than halfway.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story? Ellure is expanding and our products will be a house hold name.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am very much a foodie and most recently turned plant based -Pescatarian. A lot of the places I go to are dinning experiences based. I enjoy good food and conversations. I also enjoy great music so I support my favorite DJs when they have events. I would take them to Rock Steady Bamaba Tuesdays is my favorite spot in Atlanta. The music and vibes are always great and most importantly I feel safe!

Thursday- Eight sushi, little 5 points

Friday – Havana Cigar lounge

Reminds me of being back at home in Paterson, New Jersey

Saturday- Fellaship food and Reverb for the views

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I moved to Atlanta in October 1, 2019. I met Killer Mike and Zoe Leigh at a barber event at Marcus Harvey’s The Musa Lair in February 2020. I introduce myself and let them know that I am a Barber / Master Cosmetology and I recently relocated from New Jersey. A couple weeks later Zoe dmed me asking if I was available to do hair for a Swag Shop photo shoot. I accepted and even ended up in the photoshoot. The Next month the world shut down and I became Mike’s Barber/Male Groomer for print, media and film. The rest has been up from there. My grandfather used to tell me that he prayed that one person could give me an opportunity to help expand my career. That is my Swag Shop family Killer Mike, Shay and Zoe of Uncomfortable Truth Lifestyle.
