We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Consistency helped me get to where I am today. I’m not perfect sometimes I slack on self motivation but there are certain things I do to get back in the groove. I listen to podcast, I’d go study the greats & watch their interviews, or lately I’ve been focusing on ways to raise my vibrations. It’s easy to get off track now with everything going on in the world but you have to find ways to pull your focus back together.
Tell us about your business/company. What do you do. what do you specialize in, what are you known for. etc What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
“B:U” is an acronym for be you/be yourself & I stand behind that 100%. It’s not only a brand but a lifestyle. My brand has pieces that allow you to express yourself through fashion without speaking. I have custom pieces as well, it’s only right to have the one of one pieces, to show one you can be yourself and not dress like others. I went to school for fashion marketing and management but I can honestly say 90% of my knowledge have been self taught and lessons learn along the way. So I’m proud of how things have panned out and never giving up, sticking to the course. I realize at a early age I was different but the older I get the more it settles in. So I move accordingly at all times. I realize daily my dedication, motivation, & mindset on certain situations with life was just different. I had standards on my life without even being intentional about them at a early age. Certain places the crowd would I go, I’d rather go the opposite way. Certain trends, I’d rather just stick to my own. Certain things my peers wouldn’t risk, I’d risk it all to reach the next level. Looking back now it wasn’t easy but I wouldn’t say it was hard because it was literally me just being myself. I was born with a spark in me that refuse to settle & I’m thankful for that. I’ve overcame a lot of challenges by having morals & integrity. Several situations that I’ve had to face, I wouldn’t let get me out of character. I’ve learned along the way to always be your authentic self and trust the process. Real faith is seeing it before it even happens & that kind of faith hit different.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some love expensive restaurants but I love spots that taste like my grandma in the kitchen lol so I’d say midnight diner only so they can taste them collar greens with the fish platter. I’m not a drinker but we can take lemon drops at crave dessert bar to catch a vibe. Plus we can hang out at any spot that have a bomb DJ that plays ratchet music that I wouldn’t clean up to at the house & a few 80/90s records before the night end. I love pictures so any place that has an aesthetic atmosphere I’d love to checkout any day.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate this shout out to my foundation & those who grounded me to be the person I am today. My core family/friends and those that are still around today. I appreciate them cause I know I don’t have “yes men” around me. They will tell me when I’m wrong & congratulate me when I forget to applaud myself. It’s not just one person, it’s my tribe & the feelings will always be mutual.
