We had the good fortune of connecting with Meg Geisewite and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meg, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I am an ordinary mom who found herself trapped in the mommy wine culture. I began my sober-curious journey in November 2019 where I completed all three of the Sober Sis programs: The 21-Day Reset; Alcohol-Free Lifestyle Course; and The Quest, in which I currently participates in.
Flipping the script of silence in the mommy wine culture, I continue to give back to Sober Sis, a SoberMinded Sisterhood, and is dedicated to lifting up a community of women who find themselves trapped in gray area drinking.
My love for science led me to a successful career in pharmaceutical sales. Science helped me discover the real truth about alcohol and its seductive lies in my debut book, Intoxicating Lies: One Woman’s Journey to Freedom from Gray Area Drinking.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I had never written a book before and was terrified that I didn’t have what it takes. I have learned that is an old story I have been telling myself. I have always loved to write and journaled most of my life. Learning the book publishing industry was overwhelming, but lucky I was able to connect and hire the right people who guided me along my book journey.
If you have a story to tell, don’t let the imposter syndrome or an old belief get in the way of your dreams. Go for it! It can happen with baby steps that add up over time and when you look back you will see the leaps you have made in your journey!
The very things I wrote about in my book came back to me in lessons throughout my book journey. For example, I am a people pleaser and when you write a book, you will get many opinions on your writing. Some of the advice I received was good and helpful and other times, I had to trust myself and not change my book based on their opinion.
The book journey helped me trust myself more and to lean into having fun with the process!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to the beach near my house. As soon as you pull into this small, quaint town time slows down. The water draws you in and the salt air fills your lungs. Watching all the sailboats and birds gives you plenty to look at while you bask in the sun. The biking trails that run all through the town allow for you to see all the restaurants, shops, and all the town has to offer. After a long bike ride, we would get something to eat at my favorite restaurant on the canal. The water edge views allow for you to take in all the boaters coming and out of the canal. We would nosh on the best charcuterie board while we sipped on a non-alcoholic CosNo. Cheers to the best day!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out Jenn Kautsch, the founder and CEO of SoberSis. She has been a mentor, friend and completely changed my life when I became sober curious in November of 2019. I have completed all three of her programs and continue to give back to her community.
I would also like to shout out Cari Rose, Gina Tassone, and Amanda Kuda, all my life coaches who have guided me into becoming the best version of myself. With their love, support, and guidance I was able to shift into alignment of my highest potential.
