We had the good fortune of connecting with Meezy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi MEEZY, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from St. Louis Missouri. Like most young black men I was born in a less fortunate environment. I have a very humble background while suffering from childhood trauma along with school bullying and depression. Eventually I prayed to GOD when I was at my lowest point and asked him what purpose you have for me. Even though I was unclear at the time, my gift was being a visionary for illustrations. I naturally had the ability to take a vision or an idea and bring it to life on screen. That anger then channeled into a love and passion to help people bring their visions and ideas to life as well. That’s why I chose the art of cinematography. To visually story tell.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a full-time Director of Photography or Cinematographer, I’ve been blessed to film 6 movies distributed on Tubi, Swirl Films, Ect. I have also personally filmed for Funny Marco, bubba dub, Maverick City, 1k phew’s Music Videos and Bible Stories, 404 Chew, Canton Jones, Terry T. Miles, Benzino. I’m excited to bring more ideas to film along with helping companies brand themselves with commercial work. I’m open to help entrepreneurs expand their businesses with my profession as a filmmaker.
I got where I am today by understanding where I wanted to go. If you have big goals and objectives, expect to work hard. If achieving goals were easy everyone would have them. So stay disciplined and focused. Don’t be ashamed of your path. It’s yours and must be appreciated. My journey has always been hard. Funny thing is it just gets harder. But I overcame it by understanding that all challenges are test to get you ahead in life. Failure doesn’t exist unless you quit.
I want people to know whatever vision or profession you have, just know it has value but it’s up to you on how it will be valuable to society. To the next generation. So keep working.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly I don’t call my people friends. I have people I consider family and all my family work or do something. A small circle is all u need to keep going. So what I would do is show them a good time while showing them a business outlet or hustle. I believe everyone comes from different origins. Some people have it better than others. So I like to give examples on what can possibly be done, especially to individuals that come from less. If I can teach and inspire people to do what they love and do it well, that brings me true joy.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
