We had the good fortune of connecting with Meechie Alexander and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meechie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue an artistic as well as creative career when I was younger because I was inspired by music. Music literally saved my life and as a kid I was always infatuated with the art and the structure of how to make music.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most proud of the fact that I never quit. I am most proud of the opportunities that I made for myself to get out there opening up for bigger artists than myself such as Afro-Man, Dizzy Wright, Premo Rice, and Larry June. I stayed on course and endured the bumps this journey brings. A lot of time and patience got me to where I am today. I’d definitely say it wasn’t easy. As an artist, I only rap what I live and I’ve been through a bunch of trials and tribulations that would break you, but I didn’t. I stayed prayed up and grounded.
Some lessons that I learned along the way are not falling for sucker stuff, being comfortable with not being comfortable, and most importantly learning who I am and what I stand for.
I want the world to know that I am a father first before everything else. A human being just like you, so if I can achieve something you can too. Everything in life is attainable, you just got to stay on course with it and put that work in. Then I’m an artist who speaks from his soul.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well if they are coming to Vegas, I’m certain they would want to hit the Strip. Me, personally I don’t get out much ahaha unless it’s pertaining to music or money. But to follow this procedure, we’d slide to a dispensary or neighborhood pharmaceutical station, grab some herbs, slide over to Snappy Burgers off Decatur. Best burgers in the town hands down. Then they possibly slide with me to a studio session over at the Gas Station Recording Studios and then whatever happens from there or whatever the night brings.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God first and foremost because without Him, none of this possible. My daughter deserves some recognition because of the man she’s forming me to be as well as the fuel to the fire for this grind that I am. My lady because she’s helped me out with cover art ideas. My family, godbrothers, and my team/brand, The Underrated Society. Also to my Detroit partner, King Diff and the family at Keep Um Up Worldwide.
