Meet Mayarich | Singer, Songwriter, Vocal Producer & Audio Engineer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mayarich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mayarich, why did you pursue a creative career?
Music has always been a huge part of my life and when I began singing at such a young age, It became clear that this was my thing. My gift, my one big blessing that I was utterly and diligently passionate about, was singing. I’ve always said I’m 50% dreamer and 50% realist, and my journey thus far has truly really reflected that. When I moved to New York at 18 for college that was the genesis of there only being a ‘plan A’. Investing in myself and pursuing a career in music has always felt like the only option that makes sense for me and what makes me happy.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My music is for young women to listen to and instantly relate. The soundtrack to life, whether it’s getting ready to go out with your girls or a post break up night in. I also sometimes say things that others are afraid to say, (but are thinking it), so i’d like to think I incorporate a little of that audacious energy into my writing as well. I’m a very passionate, self proclaimed hopeless romantic who isn’t afraid of emoting on a track. When it comes to my story, I just want the world to know that it’s absolutely okay to unapologetically follow your dreams and not always have the answers while doing so. Because the drive that fuels someone willing to take on such a journey, will push them to continue to strive to be better at what they do and ultimatley accomplish the end goal, or something better. I want to represent that 1% of the population that says, forget a plan B, I’m riding plan A all the way to the win.
I’ve always been in tune with my voice and the power that it holds from a young age. But, the power of my pen became a realization later on in life. Writing my first song for a talent show at 14 was my first taste of that side of creativity. I recorded in a booth for the first time at 16, and as any artist will tell you, getting familiar with how your voice sounds recorded is a huge part of the journey as a creative. Pushing trough those insecurities, self reflecting on how often times we are our own worst enemy or worst critic, comparing yourself to others, are all apart of the battle when pursuing a career in music. But I find simply giving myself grace while striving for greatness to be extremely helpful and grounding.
Its been really humbling and inspiring wrapping my head around the fact that you must always be a student. There’s always more to learn. So as I got older I embraced moving in that way, always opening myself up to the possibility of being new at something and at first being bad, with the hopes and plans to later master it. That’s what brought me to audio engineering school in 2019. I wanted to know more about the process of recording a record. At the time, It was simple. I needed to learn more about audio to be a better artist. It’s that same hunger that kept me going to open mics every week, sometimes multiple nights a week to get better at singing with a live band.
As magical as its all been. my journey hasn’t always been easy. Especially when I decided to uproot my life and move to Atlanta after 7 years of living in New York. But upon moving to Atlanta I had the privilege of meeting and working with my amazing producer team, 88 Sohl and Mave. After I started working with my dream team, my writing quickly became stronger and faster as I was truly able to find my voice and zone in on what I really had to say as an artist. My creative process flourished based on who I was creating with and actively learning from. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned thus far is that who you surround yourself with in life, and in business, will always be a reflection of you. So you must choose wisely.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would still consider myself to be a tourist as I’ve only lived here a year and a half but with that being said me and best friend would still have a great time!
Food wise, I would definitely take them to Ponce City Market to get a taste of all the different cuisines they have to offer. I’d for sure do a lunch at Twisted Soul Kitchen, just to go back for those chimichurri wings! And to get our seafood fix we’d do dinner at Pappadeuax Seafood Kitchen.
I’ve still yet to go myself but I wouldn’t be a good tour guide if we didn’t hit up the Aquarium and the High Museum of Art. I’d take them to explore Piedmont Park and Centennial Park on some chill relaxing vibes. Then for the nightlife portion I’d go get some craft cocktails at Rocksteady in midtown, maybe go to Traffik nightclub before ending the night at Magic City.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In 2019, I had the pleasure of being introduced to an amazing underground circle of open mic events in New York that introduced me to some of the most talented creatives I’ve ever met. When I started going to Rosehill Mondays hosted by the incomparable Melonie Daniels Walker and Melodie Ray, I got to hone my craft and expand my experience gigging with a live band. Each week was truly like a masterclass, and my peers turned friends and mentors are the reason I learned so much throughout that year. It was truly a priceless experience that I think was so pertinent to finding my voice in my artistry. I dedicate my shoutout to all the insanely gifted souls I’ve come to know at Rosehill Mondays!
