Meet Maya Lanét: Recording Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Maya Lanét and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maya, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Terre Haute, a small town in Indiana that many people do not really know about. It’s gotten better since I’ve last seen it, but there’s levels to that. I come from a family of people that were stuck in the cycle of that town. There’s not many opportunities out there and I’m thankful for my mom wanting more for herself and her children. Between the issues I dealt with, with my dad and not knowing much about the world, it influenced me to dream big and want more for myself. I hate feeling restricted and sheltered.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an R&B singer based out in Atlanta and what sets me apart from others honestly is my heart. I’m hungry for this path and I’m determined to get what I deserve. I have a unique sound that also I know people can ride with. I’m very proud of my authenticity and determination to remain myself in my craft. I never want to shape my sound around what others want to here. I want to give them what they want, but in my own way. I’m not exactly where I want to be professionally yet; however I’m still better than I was last year. What helped me get started was doing my song Take a Picture with Mykee Mike around January 2020. None of this music stuff is easy. Sometimes you may hate it more than you love it, but it’s really just the process you may hate sometimes. I just know I’m meant for this and there’s nothing else I want to do. That’s how I keep going. I want the world to see my passion and love for music and I want them to see that a woman can be toxic and sexy as well. Men do it all the time.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a real laid back person so honestly, if my best friend came to town I would most definitely just throw something at my crib a couple nights and take her to Ponce City Market. That’s one of my favorite places, but not the biggest. I like to go outside too, so a picnic with a sip and paint activity would do. Maybe even taking a hike up a mountain or going to Six Flags.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I really want to shoutout my mom. Without that woman, I wouldn’t have half the drive and tenacity that I have today. My mother and I have been through some mess, but she just knows how to make every struggle seem like a future achievement. I also want to shoutout my brother for influencing my love for music. He introduced me to many different sounds throughout our childhood and it really shaped my creativity. I want to shoutout my roommates, Ashley (my makeup artist) and my best friend, Sydney who has been with me along this journey every step of the way. I’m thankful for my publicist Aliyah for opening the door for me to share my talent and show the world what I can offer. There’s probably so many other people I can shoutout because I have such a great support system. They know the love I have for them.
