We had the good fortune of connecting with Maya Smith owner of Studio905 Hair Boutique in Conyers, Ga and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maya, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The Thought process behind starting my own business was I was tired of living and working in someone else’s shadow. I wanted to become my own entity. I wanted my own space where I can allow my full creative potential to flow.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I definitely believe my work is art. Being a salon owner and a stylist is a lot of work. There’s always things that need to be fixed or situation that need to be addressed, however I have learned how to successfully juggle all of those things. I think the one thing that sets me apart is that I believe in making every single client feel special. I’ve created a salon space that is relaxing and very very intimate, which I think clients absolutely love.

I think a valuable lesson that I’ve learned in the last year and a half of owning my own business is that you can’t conquer the world alone and that you always need help.

I would love for the world to know that Studio905 Hair Boutique is a space where creativity, comfort, and class all meet. Our ultimate goal is to simply make our clients feel and look their absolute best!

Our motto is “it’s not a hair appointment it’s a hair experience!”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Some of the best places to eat, hmm let’s see. I would definitely have to take my best friend to Nanas chicken and waffles in Conyers Georgia. The waffles are absolutely delicious! I would also take them to Miss Iceys kitchen & bar in downtown Decatur, as well as Louisiana bistro, it’s definitely a hidden gem in Decatur. And I would definitely say that the varsity is also one of the number one places that everyone in Atlanta has to visit, it’s iconic.

I’d also have to say that Ponce city market is one of the greatest places to go for shopping and food and just a fun time.

And I’d also go for a great walk up stone mountain it’s a beautiful scenery.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely would love to dedicate my shout out to my parents, they are the most supporting and loving individuals that I know. They have always been supportive of all of my dreams and aspirations and they have also played a very important role in everything that I have chosen to do.
