We had the good fortune of connecting with Maurice Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maurice, how do you think about risk?
I believe in order to truly achieve being the best version of yourself you will have take risks and put yourself out into the general public. Unfortunately in most entertainment professions you are not afforded the luxury of receiving feedback to improve. There are however, plenty of criticisms. Everyone has an opinion. That is why I feel it is important by putting your God given talents out to the world, you can not just engage with your peers but see how you fare against your competitors on a global stage.

There was a time in my life when I was at the beginning stages of my career where I used to keep things “close to the chest.” However one thing I have learned is that it doesn’t matter if you are the greatest entertainer in the world if no one doesn’t know you exist. Additionally, many of the entertainers that I have worked with are actually very introverted people within real life. It is a balancing act and skillset learning when it is the right time to be introverted or extroverted to your benefit.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe going to school and becoming a Game Designer first before becoming and Actor and Entertainer set me apart from others in my industry. Outside of just learning the technical aspects of art, animation, storytelling, and producing video games, it gave me the foundation to work with any discipline on set and speak their same “language.” It could be the director of a project , the cinematographer, props etc. I feel confident in my ability to contribute and if available to show that I have other skillsets outside of just being and Actor that I can bring to the table.

I definitely did not have an easy road to get where I am at today and that journey is still ongoing. I was in The Marines. I worked in Aerospace and Defense in the corporate sector. I took crappy dead end jobs to make ends meet. I was a husband. etc. I have just learned a lot of life lessons that I wish I could go back and tell my younger self as I freestyled through life . I try to give back to talking with young men specifically and “smarten them up” to make them think. and make better decisions.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am still new to transplant to Georgia and only have been here a couple of years, but Truist Park is a great area in the Atlanta metropolitan area to grab a bite plus it is right next to the Brave’s Stadium to watch a game.

Dragoncon is one of the largest multimedia and pop culture events held on Labor Day and you can definitely catch me participating in the parade and enjoying the festivities there.

I also like being active and particularly enjoy the hiking trails of Arabia Mountain and Georgia has a multitude of hiking trails and nationals parks to visit. Lastly, there is always Buckhead and Roswell to enjoy.

It just depends on the person and the mood but we would definitely stay busy and have a great time!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There is a underrated and marginalized acting culture in Central Florida. There are so many talented artists, designers, entertainers and creative people who are extremely talented but have not got their shot a stardom outside of their local areas. Those people are some of the most hard working and professional people in their respective fields. They truly believe in helping others and the quality of their projects rival some of the bigger SAG productions in Atlanta. I would suggest any Actor just starting their career to go to Central Florida and start doing the work. (Demo Reels, headshots etc.)I have made some life long relationships with people in Central Florida!

I also would like to shoutout Full Sail University for giving me such an outstanding school experience! I am a FS Alumni and Honors Graduate. I still love and design video games!
