We had the good fortune of connecting with Maurice Houston and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maurice, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
Building a schedule and sticking to it no matter what. Also writing out my goals, short term and long term. Keeping it in my face. And holding myself accountable.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a music producer in Mobile Al making a wide variety of music from trap to pop, Lo-fi etc. As well as helping others with bringing there vision to life. Whether that’s me producing, beat making, engineering, and or helping with the writing process. Anything I can do for you I’m giving my all. Listening to God, trials and errors and, putting the time in to study my craft. Is what got me to where I am today. And I’m not satisfied with where I am in life. But it’s a journey and I’m enjoying myself. With planning and being meticulous with each step and God leading the way I can’t fail. Challenges for me is making myself rest and not force the issue when it comes to making beats and mixing songs. I have weeks where I just be locked in in the groove knocking out packs of beats and sending them out then there’s days where I’ll go to make a beat and there’s nothing happening. I mean nothing but listening to the base melody on repeat. Then trying to go and touch up a beat I know isn’t finished and still can’t do anything with it. But In those moments I’ve learned to walk away from it and do something else. One thing I can say about lessons I’ve learned. Once you do your part putting that time in and studying your craft, when it’s show time bet on yourself you’ll be fine. Study to show yourself approved. I would like everyone to know that I’m a fly producer outchea putting in work enjoying this journey called life and creating the best music I can… any artist out there that want to work in whatever capacity tap in with me on my Instagram @sensaimo
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s a 2 part answer for me but since I’m in Mobile I’ll tell you from that side. Got to hit up Harts fried chicken. 3pc dinner spicy munchers on the side with a water. I’m not really a “going out” person so to say so I might put together a kickback. Play games watch movies. But the Japanese garden is dope and it’s a couple dope lil spots scattered around the city. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost all glory and honor goes to God. Secondly LaVerne Houston I love you.
