We had the good fortune of connecting with Matty and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matty, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised on the Southside of Atlanta with a Nigerian culture background. Influenced by the diversity around me in the South, I was also brought up with tradition and discipline. My family wanted only success from me, so it made me the passionate achiever I am today. I’m grateful for the mix between both where I was raised and my cultural upbringing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Apart from my passion for music, being able to express myself through the craft and connect with others on a relatable level pushes me even more. I’m most proud of how far my confidence has come. Growing up I felt as though I didn’t fit in, so everyday I try to appreciate the genuine acceptance and people I have around me. It wasn’t easy, I had to overcome personal challenges and learn patience. I got where I am today professionally by taking the time to improve my craft. I’m excited to share my stories, explore new sounds, and experience great memories along the way. I’m also excited for people to experience my upcoming project Gen. 9. We are the label of a new generation.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite spots in the city are Atlantic Station, Little Five Points, and Edgewood. I hang out at those spots for the scene and the food. It’s always a vibe. Elleven45 also has the best hookah in the city! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my brand and label Legacy Music Gen. Which includes individuals such as manager Andrew Omoregbe and our engineer/artist, Manny.
