We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Matt, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
In today’s fast-paced world, many seek quick fixes for their careers or challenges, often turning to shortcuts or advice from influencers. While appealing, these approaches rarely address the root cause of issues or lead to lasting change. True transformation requires a paradigm shift—a fundamental change in beliefs, assumptions, and values.

This principle resonates deeply with me through **Stephen Covey’s “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.”** Although I first read the book years ago, I fully internalized its wisdom during my Executive MBA at Emory’s Goizueta Business School. The seven habits became a guiding framework that profoundly shaped my leadership style and career trajectory.

These habits—**Be Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win-Win, Seek First to Understand, Synergize, and Sharpen the Saw**—are more than a list; they’re a blueprint for principle-centered leadership. They inspire continuous growth, foster meaningful relationships, and drive personal and professional effectiveness.

For any leader striving for sustained success, these timeless principles remain as impactful today as ever. They guide not only individual achievement but also the ability to inspire and empower others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As an executive, I’ve always believed that hard work isn’t just about the hours you put in—it’s about the intentionality, focus, and relentless drive to deliver results. What sets me apart, according to others, is my ability to combine unwavering leadership and commitment with strategic clarity. I don’t just work hard—I work smart, prioritizing what moves the needle while empowering those around me to achieve their best. I thrive on solving complex challenges, embracing change, and maintaining a high execution level without losing sight of the bigger picture. Others have often noted my resilience, willingness to roll up my sleeves when necessary, and ability to inspire a shared sense of purpose. Ultimately, I believe success comes from a balance of persistence, adaptability, and a genuine passion for advancing the organization’s goals and those who help achieve them.

I am passionate about technology and leading high-growth businesses, and have a proven track record of driving innovation, growth, and acceleration. Known for my relentless energy and client-first mindset, I lead with honesty, humility, and a commitment to doing what I say. My infectious optimism fuels my teams, and I’m proud to be recognized as a leading voice in the industrial cybersecurity industry with an unparalleled understanding of the market.
What truly sets me apart is my ability to find wins within challenges. Some have called me an “eternal optimist,” but that’s a strength for me. I don’t ignore setbacks; instead, I see them as opportunities for growth. I analyze what worked and what didn’t, retool, and charge forward—always focused on continuous improvement and the path to success. This mindset has made me exceptionally skilled at launching new ventures and identifying the “secret sauce” to drive aggressive growth.

I owe much of my perspective to my mentor, Mike Assante, widely regarded as the grandfather of industrial cybersecurity. I’m deeply honored to have learned from him and shared his mission of protecting humanity. His wisdom and vision inspire me, and I’m proud to carry that mission forward daily.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Reflecting on that question fills me with love, humility, respect, and immense gratitude—for the people who’ve shaped my life, the privilege of living in the United States, and the unique times I’ve experienced.

First, I’m deeply thankful to God for granting me the strength, wisdom, and perseverance to pursue my dreams and surround me with incredible people. To my mom, thank you for being my first and greatest teacher, for your sacrifices, and for believing in me when I didn’t believe in myself. Your love has been the foundation of my life and career.

To my amazing wife, Claire—you unleashed my potential and allowed me to become the man others believed I could be. To my family, thank you for your sacrifices, patience, and unwavering belief in my vision. I wouldn’t be where I am without you.

To my older brother Michael, who is no longer with us, thank you for teaching me to laugh and embrace the healing power of humor. In death, you’ve taught me to live fully and leave it all on the field.

Finally, I owe profound gratitude to my mentor and friend, Michael J. Assante, a pioneer in industrial cybersecurity. Mike inspired me through his mission to protect humanity and what matters most. His wisdom, mentorship, and drive to always “do better” profoundly impacted my life and career. Though we lost him in 2019, I’ve dedicated myself to advancing his mission and values. His principles hang on my kitchen wall as a daily reminder of the better person he challenged me to be.

To all who’ve touched my life—thank you. Your light has guided me, and I carry your lessons forward with gratitude and purpose.
