We had the good fortune of connecting with Maryellen Bishop and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maryellen, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the growth of my brand and any success I have comes not just from skill level, but from my level of service and honesty. I don’t try to up sell on products or procedures my patients don’t need. I don’t push, I just educate. I walk patients through the beauty I see in their faces, and how I can help bring those features better into light, by creating more balance and support. And I live to serve my patients. I spend time with them, I care about their lives, their days, their self confidence. I’m not working for a paycheck, I’m working my dream job helping amazing humans rediscover their beauty, combining my skills as an artist and a medical provider. When you sit in my chair, it’s an experience. There’s no rush, no pressure. I’m honest, but I’m not the only one in charge–we are partners. I offer the tools and the vision, and I work with my patients to map out the long term plan. And throughout that plan, we genuinely become close–we laugh, we share our lives, we even cry. It’s really the best!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a Physician Assistant with Derm and ER experience, practicing solely in aesthetic medicine these days. I inject faces and bodies, and create and restore beauty. I’m not ever going to try to claim the most talent or skill in this industry–it’s full of amazing, brilliant people. But I’d guess the reason my patients seek me out and stay with me for the long term is because of a few factors: I’m an artist. I paint the face like a portrait deserves. I take my time and care about light reflection, balance, and highlighting features. I truly BRING OUT features that patients appreciate about themselves. I showcase beauty with just the slightest brushes of love and support, and I see beauty that the patient often doesn’t without my help. I care. My personality is sincere, what you see is what you get, I’m real, I listen, I educate and teach the method behind the procedure, every step of the way…. and I want to know your story. You sit in my chair, and now you’re my person. I envelope you in my care and my world. My patients feel that. They know they can cry, hug, share joy and sadness, drop an f-bomb, or laugh till they snort. My room is a safe space where we build people up. I think maybe it’s just a refreshing, unique experience for those who have patroned many aesthetic clinics, and a safety zone for those who have been frightened to try. My treatment room is love!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Obviously the first thing we’d do would be hit up Houston’s for some spinach dip (I worked there 9 years, and still love the food). We’d probably go to Little 5 Points, the Clermont Lounge for karaoke (if COVID is over), and maybe spend some time relaxing at Piedmont Park, or going for a bike ride or walk on the Beltline. I’m also super interested in some put put golf on top of Ponce City Market (can you believe I’ve yet to do that?!). Atlanta is full of fun things and delicious restaurants. My friends could visit 500 times, and we’d never accomplish it all!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d have to give a shoutout to three people: First, my mom, a single school teacher who raised me alone and always told me she’d help me TRY to accomplish whatever I wanted (no promises, hah). She did! Second, my husband, who has had my back since PA school, and never doubted that I could do great things–even pushed me to take risks and step outside my comfort zone with new opportunities that scared me. I couldn’t ask for a better partner in life. He builds me up and pushes me to do my best. And lastly, my supervising physician and spa owner, Diane Alexander, MD. She saw my potential and believed in me, and has encouraged me to basically spread my wings and fly.
