We had the good fortune of connecting with Mary K. Savarese and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mary K., what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
As the Third Chapter of my life came full circle, I became a “Creative.” More specifically, a traditionally published fiction author. My fiction, fantasy adventure. That was my goal. Oh, how I love that term, “Creative” because it can hold dear so many wonderful things in life and more Life Chapters to come!

My First Life Chapter was growing into myself and developing a career in finance. With my Second Chapter came marriage and family with so many blessings I am forever grateful. My Third Life Chapter hit me hard as I was approaching empty-nesting. Appearing on many Podcasts I love to share this experience. My life had truly changed and I had a difficulty coming to terms with it. My family unit as I knew it was dead. Harsh as it sounds women and men deal with this all the time and maybe silently as I did. Gone were the babies I raised, the toddlers I nurtured, the teenagers that kept me up at night. Anxiety and depression, I needed help and though embarrassed as I thought I can handle anything, I found it and am thrilled to say I am happy I had to cross that bridge. The other side is freedom learning how to deal with these life situations. My writing saved me for I had found my passion. So important for everyone to find theirs.

Wanting to write novels, more specifically fantasy adventures intertwined with romance, had always been put on the back burner for me as my Second life Chapter took precedence. I had a passion, writing and making believe with stories helped my life change for the better. Here was my gift for which I am forever grateful as life came back offering time for myself and doing something that I love, giving others fantasy adventures to ease their life journeys, albeit, in written word.

However, putting this dream into practice was something else indeed. . .

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a traditionally published, award-winning, best-selling fiction Author. My genre is fantasy adventure intertwined with romance. I am known for my quirky titles: My debut novel was Tigers Love Bubble Baths & Obsession Perfume(who knew!) a mystery romance.
My latest novels are a fantasy adventure trilogy, The StarWriters Trilogy. The first, The Girl In The Toile Wallpaper and the second, The StarWriters Club. So excited about this trilogy, the third, Return The Girl In The Toile Wallpaper will be out next year. If you love, fantasy, adventure and romance let my novels swallow you up, take you away.

My dream of becoming a traditionally published author took ten years and countless rejections. So it wasn’t easy. I had to develop a thick skin and continue believing in myself where no one else would. What kept me going was I loved creating fantasy and thought if it would never happen it gave me great joy and now I can share it with all your readers!

What I learned along the way was to never, ever, give up on yourself. If you have a dream, a passion, don’t let anyone take it away from you by saying it won’t happen. I can promise you if you have that grit, passion and determination in whatever field it will happen for you too! Remember it happened for me but it took ten years.

My StarWriters Trilogy has a running theme: It is written in the Stars… And so, it is written in the Stars for you…

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Southern Florida now, so I would pick up my best friend in a rented convertible from Miami airport and begin our three to four hour journey to the furthest Southern point, Key West. The journey there is incredible itself as you island hop through a string of tropical key islands, all with the coolest names, key largo, etc. clear blue teal water on both sides, narrow bridges, a living coral barrier reef and such incredible natural beauty and history.

With the exception of booking hotels we are flying by the seat of our pants. Three days of relaxation, sun, restaurants and nightlife hopping. Tours if we want, eating the best in the world key lime pie and finding the famous Ernest Hemingway six-toed cats!
Next, our journey continues in reverse, back through the keys, we find someplace incredible along the way to eat and then arrive in South Beach, Miami. Of course our art deco hotel, among many, is right on Ocean Drive, so historical. Three more days of beach, people watching, incredible nightlife, tours of art deco buildings, artistic and Cuban venues further in. We never stop!

7th day, drop off the rental and friend at Miami airport and need a week to recuperate! Isn’t life grand!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wholeheartedly shoutout my mentor and editor extraordinaire, Lynn Moon. Without her my dream of becoming a traditionally published fiction author would not have taken place. She believed in my writing, brought my novels to a magical place and I am forever grateful. Also, a further inspiration is her Indignor House Publishing, my publishing house.

It truly takes a marketing village: I shoutout and I am forever grateful to Katherine for overseeing my Author Website, etc www.maryksavarese.com and Brianna for social media input, @maryksavarese.
