We had the good fortune of connecting with Martika Cheeseboro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Martika, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At any event there can be great food, excellent music and tons of people. Yet, the event can still be lack luster if, the mood is not right.Ambiance sets the mood. It transports the mind to the intended destination and ties your soul to the experience. To see joy and wonder ignite in a person when every detail sets their senses in motion. I live to create this ambiance. My very existence to to engrave a happy memory into every heart I come into contact with through my designs.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m Martika owner of Charlessia Creative Designs. Originally from Santee, SC currently based out of Charlotte, NC.

About 10 years ago, I discovered a deep satisfaction in imparting joy to others through celebration. Breaking into the industry I became a balloon artist. My creative drive made me a natural at designing elaborate balloon installations. As my clientele grew so did the diversity of event requests I received. My passion to celebrate grew with every client’s joyous reaction. My specialty evolved and expanded into complete themed event styling. In 2019 Charlessia Creative Designs was born.

With the event styling experience, every detail is meticulously considered and executed.

At our core Charlessia Desgins mission is to keep the spirit of celebration alive. We do this by ensuring our client vision is excuted while help them life create long memories.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Charlotte, NC is filled with many hidden gems throughout the city. If I had to plan a girls week I would probably start the week by visiting Good Life Social House on Sunday. Monday we would hit the malls do a little shopping and avoid the crowds. Tuesday- Thursday, we’ll grab a few bites to eat from places like Southern Pecan, Carolina Oyster Bar, Jim & Nicks, and 131 Main to name a few. Catch a Panthers or Hornets game. Take a walk through UNCC Botanical Gardens. If we’re feeling adventurous, we’ll go to Whitewater Center to go zip lining. To end the week, JW Marriot Spa is the place for a spa day. Saturday night jazz at Ritz Carlton or catch a show at Comedy Zone. All this excitement makes me what to call up my girls and plan out the next girl week out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give praise to God, who has trusted me with this gift to share with the world. I’d also like to thank my family and friends for their continuous support and encouragement. They push me to be greater heights and become the best version of myself. Special thanks to everyone that has supported us thus far.
