We had the good fortune of connecting with Marta Niewinska and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marta, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks can be scary and unpredictable – but those who become great display willingness, not readiness for a brighter future. Risk-taking continues to fuel my life and career daily. As a first-generation immigrant, I’ve built strong self-reliance in environments far from my comfort zone. Seeing my parents’ willingness to leave their old life in Poland and build a new life from the ground up in NYC, one of the toughest cities in the world, will forever serve as motivation. Coming to America and adjusting to a new life as a four-year-old was traumatizing – it felt like being thrown into the deep end of the pool and not knowing how to swim. Facing challenges such as fewer resources, connections and not knowing the English language, I didn’t allow them to limit me and my potential.
After crossing paths with my first camera, my passion for creating art grew into a career. Quitting my 9-5 job and dropping out of college was not an easy decision. There was no backup plan from that day forth and I don’t regret making that decision as it has led me to where I am today. Adopting an abundance mindset is key when deciding to take risks. It continues to help me reframe my limiting beliefs into empowering beliefs. Looking back I’m very thankful for all the challenges I have faced and the risks I have taken as they have allowed me to grow into who I am today.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Passion is an energy source that fuels my lifestyle. It’s what pushes me beyond the current version of myself. I wake up with faith within myself to take on life by growing to that next level – no matter if it’s an opportunity or an obstacle in front of me. I got to where I’m at today professionally through the energy I bring into each day. From life’s ups and downs, I’ve grown a proactive mindset over a reactive mindset – knowing that I’m the creative force of my life through my daily decisions.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The High Line would be the first place that comes to mind. It’s more than just a park but more of a public space where you can view art/performances, walk through gardens and experience delicious food. There has been a focus with new infrastructures on the West side of the city – which stretches from the beginning of The High Line at Hudson Yards to the Whitney Museum of Art in Chelsea.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family and friends. My circle/tribe – the people I spend the most time with shape who I am. Their tough love and support has always pushed me beyond limits I couldn’t foresee. Beyond thankful for them.
