We had the good fortune of connecting with Marquisha Brittain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marquisha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Initially I started my own business because I was going to school full time and I was so close to graduation that I didn’t want to jeopardize anything by working another full time job. So I started doing nails, just because it was a creative outlet and I could do it on my own time. And most importantly, it got me through college

What should our readers know about your business?
So, December of 2017 I began to do nails as a hobby from my home. I started getting better at it, and my family members wanted me to do their nails too. Over time, I kept getting better, and by February of 2018 I was doing friends of my family’s nails. Then by April of 2018, I was taking random clients. It progressed fast. One, because my prices were very inviting for the quality, and two, I stayed on top of all marketing trends. With that being said, it definitely wasn’t easy, but it wasn’t hard neither. I believe that anything could work for anybody if they really want them too. Which is why, I leased a salon suite in April of 2019, to reward myself and give my customers a better more intimate environment. Fast forward to now, I left my salon suite and started a skin care line ( Beeiva Skin Care), and I only do nails on certain occasions because it was no longer something that I was truly happy with. I miss it sometimes, but happiness comes before everything with me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always want to show my friends a good time, so if we had a whole week together there would definitely be a lot of restaurant visits. We could have Savage Pizza in little 5 points. Benihana’s in Atlanta. Thumbs Up on Edgewood. Juicy Crab on Cobb Pkwy. Jj’s Fish & Chicken on Metropolitan. And if we wanted to eat fancy, I would definitely take her to Little Alley Steak in Buckhead. Ponce City Market is a little boring, but there is always something going on, and there is food. So we could go there. Boogalou is always fun. And we could definitely go to Sivas! Everyone loves Lenox Mall, but because I was born and raised in Atlanta, it doesn’t excite me. We would definitely go shopping in Alpharetta, at North Point Mall, or Dunwoody, at perimeter mall.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
For me, my family was a big part of my success. They’re the ones who funded the start of my business. (Shout out to my aunt Elizabeth.) They also allowed me to practice on their nails countless amounts of time to be as good as I am today.
